Easter Egger club!

Yesterday I took someone advice and sat in the coop to see which hen laid which color egg.

I found some problems doing this.

One chicken would check out every nest and throw the grass over her back out onto the floor. I was wondering why I could not keep grass in the boxes.

The same hen would go over and talk to the other hens doing there work, getting the whole coop riled up. She would sing the egg song and get the rest singing it.

She did finally go into a nest and do her work. She was only in the nest about 2 minutes.

My ICU baby would head for a nest and then see me sitting on the other side the wire divider. She would jump down and run over to visit me. She would stand and stare at me a few minutes then leave. She would walk around and then jump back on the nest roost, look at me as if she forgot I was there and the whole cycle started over. She never did lay an egg when I was in there.

One chicken seemed to be just resting in the nest and never did anything, but when I left there was an egg under her.

Another one appeared to lay an egg, and sang the song, but had no egg.

When I gave up and left I assume life went back to normal, because I got more eggs than before yesterday.

Yeah...lo they don't like to lay in front of you!! Mine do the same!! The almost never lay in front of me...

I just recently got an EE... She was weak and starving in the snow so I took her in and am nursing her back to health.

Here is a pic:

Thanks! :) Yes, she is doing great! The other chickens are kinda mean to her though... (obviously, because she is new to the flock.) She has been eating good too.
I think that she came form one of my neighbors down the street- He does not take good care of his chickens so they all look really terrible. He said that if any of his chickens came down to my place that I could keep them and this EE came because she was so hungry-she was just curled up in the snow near my coop!

I wonder why he doesn't just give them away if he doesn't want them. I'm glad you have her.

Alright, so, I've got a problem with Bourbon the rooster, in the fact that he is an absolute TERROR to my flock and other roosters. I love his coloring and I'd like to get pretty babies from him, but I can't have a jerk of a rooster, considering all of my others are sweet as pie. He doesn't try to flog people, just other birds. Thoughts or suggestions? I'd just put him in the other coop we have, but we have some new OEGB that are being quarantined atm and they're using it. So... Would anyone like take/buy him? If he's not gone soon, he's going to go in the pot, and I think it'd be a waste to cull such a pretty boy...

I'm surprised his whole flock isn't down at your place for some TLC! Some people should just not have animals.
