well a majority of EEs have ameraucana in them yours might not

my husband ( the farm boy I was a Yankee up until a year ago when we moved to Tennessee), says she looks like a red ranger w/o any black on her? Any ideas?

I completely agree! She told me the neighbor next to her has a hound that howls a third of the day- which I hear all the time- so she's not worried. Now as long as she's happy I only have to worry about one or two more. The lady on my other side works most days then stays inside all night. I only see her getting her mail. I have calmed down and not stressing so much. If the complaints come I'll deal with it at that time. It just pains me to have spent so much time and money building the coop and raising these beauties. I've never actually been around chickens before until I got these so this has been an interesting experience thus far

You need to just go have a discussion with your close neighbors. I was worried about one of mine, when I broached the subject he said "psh, I grew up on a farm, those noises are not the least bit bothersome". I never spoke to the neighbor on the other side (mostly because they had a hound for a long time that was noisy and they were not out much) they were very nice people but the opportunity never arose, as they were moving out I said "that makes me sad since you never complained about my chickens and rooster " the rooster promptly crowed she said "that's hilarious, I knew you had chickens but I never even noticed you had a rooster". I live in a suburb but there are many homes nearby with small backyard flocks and I have not heard any complaining from the non chicken keepers at all. My flock gets noisy for a few hours total a day since there are 5 consistent layers and someone feels the need to cheer on her flockmate everytime another is laying. Now that the rooster has moved on to another home one of my EE's 'barks' if she feels like there is a threat around (I have dogs and I think she picked up on the behavior from the one that acts as their guard dog).

Actually false. Ameraucana are derived from the birds we call Easter Eggers. Most hatcheries are still breeding from the unrefined descendants of the original imported stock. It's the Ameraucana that have Easter Egger in them. Not the other way around.

OK good to know! Thank you! We are learning so much from everyone! The closest I had ever come to animals before we moved was a zoo or the 4h fair! Lol so this has been a learning experience all totally worth it and more rewarding than I could've possibly fathomed but an experience none the less!! Thanks to this site I've learned more the past few weeks than I could have in a library for a month!!!

ok, we are in FL but plan on moving to TN and getting a place with some land. We're headed to eastern TN. I just don't know much about it.

who knows. We are planning on no more than 30 - 45 min outside Knoxville. We looked at Dandridge and Kodak but we don't know the first thing about any of it. My husband is military and retires in 4 years and that's the area we want to buy a house. We looked at Maryville too because of schools but there's not really any land like he's looking for.

So i went to the feed store yesterday and they had chicks -ofcourse- and i battled the kids and myself and decided I would NOT buy more chicks until the 6 week old ones are in the coop with the hens.. No matter how cute they are and they had light EE's and i've been wanting one in hopes that I'd end up with a white one and we wanted some SOOOOOO BADLY!!
.. Welll, my Boyfriend's mom texted me.. she's at the feed store and do i want more chicks... I took this as the chicken gods wanting me to get them. "okay, but only 2 Ameraucana's"..
she sends me a pic while asking about lighting..
"wait.. how many did you buy?"
..."well see there was one mystery chick that was thrown in with the order and it's the only one like it and it was following me..... IT LOVES BEING HELD!!"
ok... I have 3 more chicks now... chicken math.
