Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Can someone please tell me that my sweet Ivy is a pullet? I bought 3 EE's "pullets" in Jan and they are now 6 weeks old. I suspect I got one, possibly two boys out of the deal.

Below are the 2 I suspect might be cockerels. on the left is Ivy, on the right is Maybelene.

Her face and chest...no red yet on her/his comb.

Thank you both so much! I was convinced that Mabelene especially, was a boy because of the beginnings of some darker orange blotchy feathering on her wings around her sides, and I sometimes see her either trying to crow, or clearing her throat. she stretches her neck a little and opens her mouth...no sound comes out but it was suspicious to me. So far I have not seen Ivy do this maneuver and she was the main one I was concerned about. She has been my fav since day 1...(which also worried me a bit since it's usually the favs that end up being roos)

What makes YOU think they are boys?

What my NON PROFESSIONAL eye is seeing:
- Pretty flat comb, not 3 row
- No splotchy rust red patches on the "shoulder".
- No pointy hackle feathers - could be early for them?
- No thick legs

Pullet.

Hope I'm right

These are the reasons I suspected boys...never had EE's before so I am about as clueless as they come. I appreciate that you gave them a look. My kids will be so happy to get some blue/green eggs!

Well, there is only the one picture of May-be-Lena / May-be-Lenny

But there is orange and there is rusty/mahogany red. All the pictures I've seen here that said "these blotches mean boy" were rusty/mahogany red. One of my girls is Orange (and a beautiful bird if I do brag so myself
wink.png
) But she went from "chipmunk" to mostly solid. Harder to pick out the "is it a 'bad red' patch or just more adult feather coloring coming in?" on a bird with patterned feathers like yours.

Both look like pullet to me! Congratulations! I think Maybelene is going to be really striking with her blue/orange coloring :)

Thanks Bruce. That description really helps. Maybelene really has no mahogany color. It's just a slightly darker orangey color and is probably adult feathers from your description and the pics you posted. Her comb is a little bigger and bumpier than Ivy's but no red in it either.
