#1 is for sure ruler of the brooder, but is also larger then the rest. He/she makes sure it is the first to eat when I refresh the food and huddles the rest in a corner seemingly to protect them. I can not see any comb on it either. I was really hoping it was a rooster
#2 is a blue-ish color under the red so I think the feathering slower was an eye trick unless your referring to something else.
They all look like pullets to me so far. If #1 is older/bigger, it will be trying to claim top of the pecking order and eating first. If there are no physical signs of a cockerel yet, then there are not yet enough hormones flowing, and I wouldn't expect to see dramatic behavioral differences between the sexes at this point. Watch the combs in the next week for growth and pinking up, but plumage is showing 4 females.
The good news is there will soon be many unwanted roosters looking for new homes. You will have your pick and be able to get your choice for very cheap or free! Find the BYC thread for your local area and ask around. You'll hear about plenty of accidental cockerels on this thread too.
