Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Quote: They change quickly at this age. I've never had a black/white EE, but I remember my silver laced wyandotte having a much pinker comb than the other gold based pullets. Don't know if silver base has anything to do with it... Individuals will vary. That could be the motto for EEs.

Thanks for the help Wishing4Wings. I started out with a small flock and really wanted welsummers. But now that I got my chicks and none are welsummers I really don't care. They are all interesting to watch grow

I'm getting sad because I don't think I have any roosters

I wanted like 3 or 4

can any one tell me about these others that aren't Americans?

Gold laced might be a boy, but I'm pretty sure your Australorp's a girl. If you wanted roosters, you should have shopped at the greater Indy area RKs because I've got a $%^@$#%@% horde of them (from the pullet bins, no less)

Ask local feed stores to order them for you. Martinsville IN just got Welsummers in for the second time. I got a pair the first time they received them and just bought two more (hoping for a quad since I already have one of each sex).

My two surprise EE I got out of the straight run bin at my feed store. I think the hatchery put them in there because they didn't meet their ameracuana standards. I asked for the two yellow chicks thinking they were new Hampshire chicks.

Aren't New Hampshires red though?

Your EEs could go either way right now. If the pattern stays even, they're likely girls.

Not the ones from belt hatchery, they start out yellow and then as the mature turn to a light red.

Weird (cue Twilight Zone theme). Makes me wonder if New Hampshire genes are more like an extended buff than red. It's doubly weird when I think of all the chicks sold as RIR that grow up to look more like New Hampshires. Kinda makes me wonder how much has changed since the brown egg laying fad got huge.
