@bruceha2000 we have a very safe coop with a run, but we're hoping to let them free range. They go in their coop fine at night but it's attached. When you say you have to babysit them if they free range do you always have to babysit them or do they get the hang of it eventually? Do they stay close or do they warned off pretty far?

You stay with them when they are small because you are afraid they will get lost in the weeds or get eaten by something. If mine are any example, they stay close and together when they are young. Their second summer (when they were a year old, they would break into smaller "pods" and go farther. Now at almost 3 years old, they may be found together or with some here and some there. None of mine go more than about 100' from any building.

Hatchery sexing for Easter Eggers is more like 75%. And there is no way to tell based on chick down. A chipmunk chick can feather into anything really. My silver chipmunk with dark eyeliner baby turned into a gold partridge hen, a yellow and brown one with eyeliner turned into my red cockerel. You can't really tell what the comb type is until about a week old.

If they are vent sexing it should be the same "standard" 90% accuracy.

My guess is pullet. Unless solid, dark red wing patches appear in the next 1-2 wks, the above feather pattern is typical of a female.

What do you all think. This is Potato. I posted a few weeks ago. She's now 11.5 weeks old. Her hatch mate that I also have doesn't have a comb as red, but the hatch mate "falcon" also is smaller.

Still no comb development, I think you can safely call this one a pullet.

Do you guys think roo or hen ? I have 2 the same age and this one has a very different comb than the other who is 100% crowing roo by now. This one is much smaller and much more skittish
