Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Anyone else's EEs the most curious and best escape artists out of their flock?? All 3 of mine are always out of their run and ruling my yard, it's great (for the most part, haha)!!

I have one that likes to escape through the egg door when the kids try collecting. She'll run in from wherever she happens to be and hop up to the door at the sound of the latch. Little stinker.

Alright, so I have 8 EE chicks that I need help sexing..2 are 5 weeks old and 6 are 3 weeks old but it looks like I already have some pretty prominent cockerels. Can anyone help confirm?

Chick 1: 5 weeks - pullet?

Chick 2: 5 weeks - cockerel?

Chick 3: 3 weeks - pullet?

Chick 4: 3 weeks - cockerel?

Chick 5: 3 weeks - pullet?

Chick 6: 3 weeks - cockerel?

Chick 7: 3 weeks - cockerel?

Chick 8: 3 weeks- cockerel?

I'm going to go with too young to tell. However the devoloping combs on the last 3 have me suspicious. If I had to say one way or the other I'd guess the last 3 cockerels. But I'm going to say too young yet to know either way.

I'm a newbie myself so I'm going to watch and see what some of the eggsperts have to say.

I agree, too young to tell, but your guesses look pretty good. The one I'd change is that Chick #2 looks more like a pullet to me; by 5 weeks my cockerels are usually turning at least pink. Post again when they're 7-8 weeks!

There are so many of these I put them in the small size but you can click them to look at them larger.
This one I think is a roo.

I want this one to be a hen but the feathers flash blue in the light.

I think this charcoal laced one is a hen maybe. The black one dose have a tail but it is about half of full size.

This pair are the same as the next 4 pictures. I saying dark one roo and the lighter one hen.

This one I am calling hen. She is just so delicate looking and a big scaredy cat too. Her color seems to be charcoal with single lacing.

The black bird on the shoulder is not all black. Along the wings you can see bits of pattern peeking out of the black.

This boy I am sure is a roo because of the bright orange on the shoulders and the sparse feathering there too.

This one is a roo too I am sure. Has anyone ever seen that "eyes" pattern on the chest of a chicken before?

My EE babies... 6.5 weeks old. I think all pullets, but would appreciate some validation.

Iella, need to see the whole chick, not just the head/neck, to assess patterning.

Penny Hen, the eyes crack me up. I must admit that was not what I thought of when I saw them. I suspect the chest will molt to solid black. Also wanted to mention that iridescence is a unisex trait. The only time it's masculine is when you have extreme iridescence in the tail. Females can have a good bit, though, so it's purely a matter of degree/location.
