Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I am going to take pics of my EE's this weekend. I'm pretty sure the brown ones are hens, and the gray ones are boys. But I swear I have the hardest time figuring them out! (They all look "boy" to me! LOL!) And it makes it doubley bad because they are 4 months old. Bwahaha! (Lost cause, I am!) To give myself credit, I'm usually pretty good with Silkies! ;)

what do the leghorn crosses look like?

Puffy cheeks and blue legs!

This one has orange legs and a larger comb

What is mooshoo's breed background?
I purchased his egg from Gabbard Farms so I'm not sure. I am guessing he has Wheaton/blue something. When he hatched he was an all white chick. I purchased 3 Ameraucana or EE eggs from Gabbard Farms thus the pics of Chip and Dale and Mooshoo. The girls lay blue eggs. My other hen that is an EE (purchased at the local farm supply store) lays a green egg. Lucy has the gray legs typical of Ameraucana's.

Just thought I would share my EE pics.

He looks like he probably came from pure Ameraucanas but crossed colors.

This is what makes me sad about Ameraucanas. They're so "snobby" Any other breed of animal, if you cross colors it's still a pure breed. Just not of breed standard colors. With Ameraucanas if you cross blue and wheaten, though the chicks are PURE Ameraucana, they can't be called that and are considered mere "inferior" Easter Eggers because of their coloring.

I personally love the name Easter Egger for this reason. It's a lovely grab bag and far more open minded and loving of a breed than Ameraucana.

How accurate are hatcheries at sexing chicks for stores? I have some EE chicks that are about 2 to 3 weeks old and I wanted all pullets and this was the first time I bought chicks from the store. I know that all chicks are hard to sex but I am new to EE's, I usually just raise silkies but my husband wanted a few more blue egg layers. Can you tell by the feathers on their wings or the coloring on them? I can post pictures later.
