Roughly 16 weeks old..

Bearded birds rarely show any wattle development. It's very definitely a cockerel -- pullets never look like him. He may gain confidence with maturity or he may be content as a beta male.

could she have feather eating mites?
Don't think so, and neither does my husband (he's a veterinarian, so he would recognize mites). She's just always had feathers that flip out, even when she only had about 2 of them, and weird little diminutive wings. I think she's just got a genetic defect.

you can't see feather eating mites.
And that is not a frizzle or even a frizzlexfrizzle.

I'm not saying she's a frizzle or a frazzle or whatever. But I don't think she has mites. Her feathers grew in like that from day 1. No one else has feathers like that, nor do we have any signs of an infestation after 4 weeks of them brooding together. She's not itchy. She doesn't pick at them. She displays no signs of irritation. She doesn't have any signs of debris between her feathers. No signs or symptoms of mites. Just funky, flippy feathers that grow outward.

Edited to add:

We just got Penn and a few other chicks out of the brooder to check them over. Everyone's skin and vents are calm, unirritated, clean. No signs of any kind of parasitic infestation or skin or feather irritation. I truly think Penn just has a genetic mutation or abnormality.

Here she is at two days. You can see that her wings are stunted and her feathers are already curling out and oddly shaped. She's just a little oddball.
