Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.  :fl     What breed of chicks are in you getting next year?

I'm going for pretty eggs lol... So what I'm wanting is true araucanas, olive eggers, Marans, lavender orpingtons, welsummer, maybe some of those WTB if I can get some. I've found a few breeders with some options but haven't decided who I want to order from... I'll probably end up ordering around 25 straight run and picking up 6 EE pullets locally... My chicken math is hoping for 15+ pretty egg layers to add to my 11possible pullets I have from this year. Puts me just at capacity but I'm also guessing I'll lose some in between (just sooooo many predators here) now and then. I'm not thinking it would be hard to rehome any extra pullets if I do end up with too many... Or am I wrong there?

Pullets are easy to sell, but those straight run cockerels will be a little harder. You could eat them... I'm a wimp. can't bring myself to do it. I have a Welsummer and a Marans, not super dark eggs, but nice. My pure bred Ameraucanas still lay greenish blue. What is WTB?

The boys will end up in the freezer, I don't have to do the killing so I'm ok with it I'd just would feel terrible if I ended up having to butcher perfectly good hens... It's a whiting true blue, a new cross breed with super pretty blue eggs I want to try. They sell them at McMurrry but sold out crazy fast, this was the first year. It's similar to the my pet chicken super blue layer, also new

I'll bet those are off shoots of the Arkansas blues, that were developed at the university. Cross between commercial leghorns and blue Ameraucanas, thay bred and refined over several generations to create a new breed. Light blue eggs. The project was ended, and the birds sold off to various places.

That sounds possible I really have no idea though... I've just been reading into pretty egg breeds and was wanting to try some

Here is another one of my ladies at 2 months. She had a very wide but flat 3 row.

I agree it's rare. Thanks she knows she's pretty!

Did she have 3 rows at a young age?  How old was she in those pics?  I know pullets can get 3 rows when they are closer to 18 weeks, just have never seen it at 8 weeks, like happens with cockerels.  Think that's rare.  She's pretty!

Ok I know it has only been a week but tomorrow is the last shipment of chicks at our store. I think she is starting to look more pullet than roo especially when she is next to my gold laced Cochin roo so fingers crossed what do you think? I really want those dang green eggs!!

At 5 weeks

I feel like you should just head to farm store & pick up a couple more chicks- you know- just in case! I'm not basing that on any scientific knowledge on the looks of your pictures. I just figure a few more couldn't hurt in hopes for a pullet! Sorry- I've just been following this post for a few days!!
