Easter Egger Thread!

Pics
Thanks :) I cracked the egg and it looked perfect and very orange, just a bit small. The membrane had not been broken, so I ate it on my BLT for dinner.

Yes it will be hard, but I need to just get over it. I do look at them all as pets, but have also thought it would be nice to have fresh chicken meat as well, but was thinking more along the lines of their future offspring.

Wish I knew what could be done for feather plucking. I wonder if you give her a spritz of that bitter apple stuff they use to keep dogs from chewing stuff up........

I hope you have the sick chicken separated far from the others so they don't all get it. I don't know much about fowlpox, recovery, and if the eggs can still be eaten.... keep us updated.

It's pretty common, and the dry pox has a very low mortality rate in healthy chicks, so all the others will be fine. The only reason my little gal might pass is because she didn't have much weight to lose.

For those that have grown Easter Eggers, can you post a baby picture with their grown picture please? I'm dying to see what their plumage grows into from what it started at with their baby feathers.

One of mine looks like this right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she grows into. The other one has deeper tan and more brown spots on her face and less eyeliner.

This is Jammy when she was a chick. Above is a also a picture of her now. At the moment she is exactly ten months old. She has no beard, but we got her while she was still in the egg and we aren't sure if she is actually counted as an Easter egger.

First and second pictures are of her as an adult. In the bottom photo the yellow chick is Lou Lou, then Precious(who very sadly died), the mum, Bantina(who isn't really their mum but raised them when they were still in the egg), if you look closely you can see Gloria peeking through the feathers, Runia and at the far right is Jammy the Easter egger with a red beak. Jammy has no brothers and still lives with her mum, four sisters and friend.

I decided I'm going for full isolation for 48 hours in the hopes that her being lonely and away from that habit will break it. I really don't want to have to cull her, she's a beauty and one of my egg layers! Plus, my favorite pullet just suffered an attack and I'm not sure she's going to be OK… So I really don't want to lose another chick! I already had two of my egg layers pass. Another one has Fowlpox and hasn't put on any weight in days. I'm worried about losing that one too! I got eight chicks from my local feed store and they aren't doing very well on the whole. I'm pretty certain it's not me, because I have 13 meat chickens from another hatchery that were shipped nonetheless and they all survived and are thriving.

If she's really hurting your hens and doesn't stop, then I know it's hard, but you'll have to get rid of her. To be honest, I don't completely trust feed stores with chicks.. I think it's better to order online or get them from a breeder.
