Easter Egger Thread!

Congratulations!! :highfive: It must be very exciting when you went to check and you saw her egg! The egg color is very beautiful; another wonderful advantage for EE keepers is that they get really pretty eggs! I can't wait to see the eggs I get from my bantie and my mixed EE! :) Around 1-1/2 months left until they do! :celebrate What do you do with your eggs? If you have a lot of extras, what do you do with them? I know I'll have a lot of extras with 5 hens that lay very well, so I need suggestions on what I can do?

Here is a link from The Chicken Chick on how to freeze fresh eggs for use in the winter, when you get less eggs. :) I am currently trying it. :D

Is that Emma is a chick in your avatar picture? Still waiting to see pictures of her as a young lady!
No. oddly enough when she was a chick, all her down was dark chocolate all around. then her feathering came in and shes black and white. go figure. however the avatar chick is Megatron, my EE rooster. He was the runt of the flock and he turned out being the prettiest of all 5 of my cockerels.

I got a crevcouer runt that was a tiny chick. After a couple months, she had a growth spurt. She now has a near perfect crest and is bigger than my other crested varieties. :p

Another time, I also got a runty welsummer cockerel... Most people that saw him called him ugly... however, here is an after photo...Isnt he pretty? He does his job of watching out for the ladies better than any other roosters I have owned.:woot

He's beautiful!

I'm having trouble with one of my cockerels. I have 2 EE cockerels & 1 RIR to 9 pullets. Cocoa is the latest to get hormonal and has been showing aggression towards me. He bit a nice hole in my arm when I picked him up and the next day attacked my leg and left another hole. When I let everyone out to run around the other day, he chased my poor Pearl all over the property. Pearl, my favorite boy, is acting very fearful of him.

I've decided that Cocoa most likely will need to be rehomed or dispatched. I currently have him in a cage inside the coop and let him run around outside for a couple of hours yesterday without the other chickens -- it just me and him. I kept a small broom handy if needed. He ended up tidbitting me most of that time. I'm confused.

Many Roosters display over-aggression during adolescence but later grow out of it.:) However, some roosters are territorial because they feel a need to establish their authority because they feel that their position in the pecking order is not secure (this can be because another rooster is around). Here is an informative article on the subject of roosterly aggression:

Today I let everyone out in the yard for about 4 hours. Cocoa was acting might cocky, but Red Rider (RIR) put him in his place. Pearl went back to the coop to avoid him for a while, then hopped the fence and hung out with me by the house. Several times Coca came to the fence and paced, and Pearl stayed by me. When I went in the house he followed. I let him in and out several times, but seems to just want to avoid Cocoa. I just put them all in their yard/coop, so hopefully they will all get along.

Pearl seems really sweet, and he seems like a good boy! The fact that he trusts that you'll keep him safe is really cute! But Cocoa is being a jerk, and if he were mine, I'd probably do what you're planning to do. Just make sure Pearl isn't being picked on too much, roosters can be very aggressive to other roos. I have 5 meat-birds, 2 of the RIRs are roosters. The dominant one is very mean to me and to the other roo. He bites, chases and attacks the roo, and me too! When I pull out food most of my hens come running to eat out of my hands, and even the sweet less dominant roo comes to me and eats! Unfortunately, even if he's trying to be gentle, he ends up biting really hard, so I pull back and most of the time I don't let him eat out of my hands because he doesn't know how to be gentle.. But sometimes I make sure he gets more treats, because he's a good boy. But, I used to think he was the mean roo... So I did yell at him sometimes, and even though he'll eat out of my hands, he won't be touched, picked up, or followed.. He'll run. But it's okay, I mean, I kind of get it. He is being traumatized by the mean roo. (Which by the way, I'm hopefully getting rid of soon.) But my problem is.. I love some of the meat-birds because they're really sweet.. But I promised that I wouldn't keep them.. I've been trying not to get attached, but it's so hard.. :barnie :hit :(
