We got our first egg today!! On Easter!

. Unfortunately the egg is not green, I had a feeling it wouldn't be because she didn't have a pea comb, which is linked to the blue egg gene. Because she didn't carry the blue gene it was like crossing a white egg layer with a light brown egg layer (from the australorp) so we ended up with a tinted cream egg. I am still very happy with her though!

Thanks! It's actually smaller than a store brought egg but it just looks a bit bigger in the photos. Its still a good size for a first egg. It was a nice surprise especially on Easter!

Yay! Congrats we got our first blue egg on my birthday. What a present!! Even though they aren't blue, you still have a cool colored egg. They will get bigger as she gets older. Happy Easter!

Awesome! I have single combed hens that lay blue eggs. Pea combs/blue shells don't always go together.

That's good! I guess we were just unlucky. The people who sold her to us told us she would lay green eggs so it must have been a very slim chance she wouldn't, so we had some really bad luck, but she is still one of my favourite chickens... Egg colour will never change that! Although we might get another EE, we always hoped for green eggs, and the araucana and araucana crosses have a really nice personality. Maybe a araucana x RIR this time..
