Easter Eggers-What breeds do YOU prefer to cross your Ameraucanas with?

To Hagan:
Please keep us informed as to how this is progressing and turns out.
I love my EE's and their laying ability. I do very little crossing to them. Just interested in how it all turns out.

Here is one of my favorite EE's that I just got from another BYC'er. She lays a bluish green egg and I hatched a chick, but can't tell which one it might be since others hatched with it too. :O( I'm hoping to get lots of beautiful babies from her and my blue AM roo. Excited to see if they are bearded or not too.

Thanks! I can't take credit for the photo, but it is really nice. Peaches is even prettier in person too. I just had to bring her home.

Really pretty birds in this thread! Reminds me of why I love EEs so much ^_^

As far as breeding goes, white feathers are almost always dominant (there are a few exceptions, but not terribly common). So expect it to show up like crazy in the first generation of offspring, if it is any of the parents.

I think the most interesting crosses are the ones that involve Cuckoo Marans and Ameraucanas. You get really neat cuckoo olive eggers with beards. (I believe the beard gene is at least partially dominant, as it always shows up in first gen offspring).

Boy I have learned so much from this thread! Thank you all. I have a decent flock of Ameracauna hens and 3 roo options: a cuckoo Maran, a blue wheaton Ameracauna or an American Buckeye. Just from what I have read here I gather that I can cross them any which-a-way I wanna! Sounds great.
Now I have a new question if you would be so kind as to answer If I breed a blue wheaton to another BW will the chicks be BWs?

why go through all that work instead of just convincing the people that want easter eggers that Ameraucanas are better for what they most likely want ee's for... blue eggs... which is true in my opinion

Hey,

I am a high school teacher and I use rare chicken breeds and egg colors to teach sustainability & genetics. We research different egg colors and breeding for various egg colors. We are going to be hatching some olive eggers and various other breeds soon in the classroom.

Has anyone tried a cross between two blue egg laying breeds (Ameraucana with Cream Legbar) or even a cross between a blue egg layer with a green egg layer. I am just curious if this would produce a brighter blue egg layer or even a brighter turquoise colored egg. Anyone tried this or have opinions/predictions or a hypotheses?

Thanks!

When you cross BW and BW, these are your genetics:

1/2 BW
1/4 Wheaten
1/4 Splash Wheaten

I just hatched 3 and am thinking I got, out of those, 2 BW and 1 either splash or wheaten. Excited to see what they turn out to be.
