Actually, Llysse, the focus of DRN is domestic ducks and geese, though we feel that chicks need love, too.

I was not suggesting that YOU bear other bird babies like ducklings in mind, but that WE do.

This is a wonderful idea, I think with the emphasis on good care and with maybe a starter list of necessary materials that the potential chicken owner can get from the feed store, the places would be glad to help out and post them. It might even prompt them to maybe put together a starter set that can be purchased along with two "easter chicks". Maybe like water fount, feed dish, #10 starter feed and heat lamp.

An interesting tidbit related to the topic...

There are new rules for retailers that sell livestock. What I don't know is if it's national or just here in California. Retailers selling livestock must provide adequate care sheets to all customers purchasing animals and requires a signature if the customer refuses the care sheets. Retailers who are caught not providing these care sheets can face a fine per violation.

Good luck with the rally. It's a great idea.

Llysse, I will distribute copies here in Southern Maine. I know they don't provide an info sheet at the feed stores. If asked, they will give you information, and are quite helpful if you have a problem, but I think this project goes one step further. Thanks! Lets do it !!! Merry

I just looked at your link for the colored chicks and I had to clean my computer off afterwards. I litterly spit my coffee out. What in the world woudl ever make someone do that to those poor little creatures. It is truly sick that there is a market for that sort of thing.
