Easter-to-Mother's Day hatch-along?

Just a quick update because we're not totally done and I'm exhausted!

Of the 19 that made it into lockdown, 13 have hatched, 5 more have pipped or are zipping, and 1 was DIS -- a malposition where it tried to pip out the side, couldn't do it, and must have drowned. Yolk was totally absorbed, so it was ready to go. I had two others try to do the same, but made enough of a dent in the shell that I could see it and make an air hole, but there was no crack in the shell for this one to clue me in. :(

My first two pippers (the salmon fav and the malpo Polish) were the 4th and 7th chicks to make it out, respectively.

Thus far, I'm SO MUCH happier with the Incuview than the farm innovations I used to use. My hatch rate, even with shipped eggs, is just worlds better.

I'll post some pics when I can!

Sorry about the babies that didn’t make it, but congrats on your hatch!! Can’t wait for pics

Loving all the hatching excitement! It’s day 13.5 here for my delayed in shipping eggs. From this morning’s candling, I’m pretty sure the bantam egg has quit. The two remaining Favaucanas look good and were moving, though! Photos attached - the dark egg is particularly hard to photograph. Do you guys think the bantam is a quitter?

And we’re done! 18/19 eggs that made it to lockdown hatched. Depending on how you count it, that’s a hatch rate of either
A) 95% (eggs that were alive on D18)
B) 82% (eggs that were fertile and unbroken)
C) 75% (eggs that were fertile)
D) 70% (all eggs set)

The fertility of the shipped eggs was pretty good (92%), and I did think my C/D rates were thrown by my trying to incubate cracked eggs. But I did it for science!

I also have two more eggs on D18 right now that look good, so hopefully that will boost those rates a little more.

Finally tally:
2 55 Flowery (1 male, 1 female)
2 tolbunt Polish
1 polish x Orpington
1 salmon faverolle
2 welsummers (they’re hatchery birds so not sure I can sex them, but they look female to me)
1 FBCM
2 BBS marans (one blue, one splash, I think)
1 sex-link olive egger (male, I think)
2 other olive Eggers
2 easter eggers
2 cream legbars (1 male, 1 female)

I’m happy with this! Last year my ratio of males to females hatched was an abysmal 75%! I literally hatched 12 male chicks out of 16 eggs. This year I know I’ve got a few guaranteed pullets.

Now, the good part! Chick pics!
