Easter!! what a wonderful time.....if you sell chicks

Bob, you are the one bringing religion into this...not me. Which is why I was a bit confused about your statement. I think St. Francis was wise beyond his time, however don't assume I am any religion just because of my quote. If I had a quote from His Holiness the Dahli Llama would you assume I was Buddhist?
I think that anyone who is going to have an animal should do research BEFORE they get that animal and if not, they should at least do so immediately after. The person who has bred the animal and is selling its offspring should also make sure the animal is going to a responsible home as well.
Before I got chickens I read 3 books and joined a poultry forum before I made the descison to bring chicks into our family.

This is probably the most taken out of context scripture in the bible.
Read the passages leading up to and beyond this one and it will be pretty clear that we ARE to judge, but judge righteously.
Don't point out a speck in your brothers eye when you have a beam in your own.

I am not taking this out of context I am cutting and pasting from the online bible.mmMaybe you should take another look at this...I am done

Judging Others
1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Come on, we are not doing religion here. The Bible has nothing to do with selling or not selling chicks.

Lets get back to the chicks, ok?
Please and thanks.

Me too Hooligan, they are the sweetest little creatures when they are young and when they grow up they not only give us love but edible food, and one of the best sources of food at that. I would love to push the envelope and add a few more to my flock even if it is not allowed here, who's really counting. But if I have to wait because I would rather give up my getting some right now to spare lives being wasted I will wait. What is the emergency that you have to have chicks at that time, get them a few weeks earlier or later I do not get it.

Many years ago I saw what the little ones do to those chicks and it is not pretty, Once those little peeps started to poo one their pretty little dresses the love affair was over.

I am thankful for that law.

I raise fine, healthy birds here at my home. Some of the feed stores get their chicks from me for spring selling. This is the first year that I will be set up and selling them myself. It is way more trouble for me to keep them and set up and sell them, than it is to just drop a load of them off the day they hatch. If I didn't care about them, and didn't take the time to educate people about them then who would? Nobody. The people at the feed stores are for the most part ignorant, so the way I figure it is this: I have learned through trial and error just about everything you can know about chickens, who else better to educate the customer? My business card is attached to each pamphlet and questions and/or concerns are welcome at any time. People getting offended by someone selling chicks at Easter is just stupid to me. If you could see how your hatchery chicks are handled the first day of their lives, you would never do business with them again.

My post wasn't directed at you, but at the general use in which the "thou shalt not judge" is so often used.
I'm glad you added a bit more to it though, because it clearly shows that I stated it's accurate meaning.

When I quoted that quote I used only the scriptural quote itself because I hoped that nobody in this thread would get the impression I was referring to them, which I wasn't, I'm sorry you misunderstood my intent.

Two more things to add. Then I'm only going to read this post. If I don't I'll probably get a bad Bob PM from Speckeled Hen. And I don't mess with her

We are in total agreement.

Can anyone tell me how old chicks need to be in order to sell them? When I bought mine last year at the local feed store I thought they were only a day old? as you can tell, I'm new at this.

Also, can you tell me about the pamphlets that I am reading about to hand out having to do with care for the chicks ?

If you are going to mail them they should be one day old so they can travel, they have enough reserve to live a few days without food or water. If you are going to sell to someone local I do not believe it matters.
