There is a reason that the Humane Society does not allow the adoption of black cats around Halloween.
Most people in this country will not sell dogs to a family that considers dog a menu choice. There are many other examples, but I haven't had enough coffee yet.
The point is, we are judged all the time. While I don't like it, it really does help to protect the innocent.
It sounds like the people here who are planning to sell chicks are doing it responsibly, and I would love the opportunity to buy just a few of different breeds instead of 25 at a shot. If you're new to chicken raising , having two or three enables you to get attached and focus more attention on them as opposed to an overwhelming 15 or 25. I know I never would have chickens if I had to start with that many.
That said, there are others who are NOT as responsible as the people here and will sell anything to anyone without caring what happens after they get their money.
While you can't stop those people from selling, we can educate the buyers as best we can, the same way we can show people pictures of battery hens. You'd be amazed at how many people just have no idea where their food comes from.
So, it's nice to see people concerned (Hooligan) and people who will reassure them (Repo), thanks to both of you.
Well anybody who buys a chicken from me. I give them the backyardchicken.com website after the sale. I have to meet a lady who bought my chicks. I called her last night and she told me her 5 yr old daughter took over the silkie roo I gave her. You could hear him crowing. I was so happy he is doing well
wow. I almost forgot about this post, and am just now reading it. i just asked if anyone else was selling chicks around Easter. what an argument that turned out to be. what went wrong with all of you. i'm just seeing what everybody else plans to do. I never said anything about dying chicks. and if somebody earns their money and buys a chick, its their chick, they can do what they want to with it, just as we can. if everyone would like to start over, that would be great. now, is anyone else planning on selling some chicks around Easter? (simple question)
The whole issue of mentioning easter and chicks in the same post let alone in the title of a post has "raised hackles" more than once on a chicken forum. With a group this large there are bound to be differences of opinion, topics get side tracked by a simple comment that a few interpret in different ways from what the author meant.
And in answer to your question. Yes, I will sell chicks on the easter weekend if there are requests. But like many here I will give them a care sheet and my # to call if they have problems.
