Not really downsizing....just not keeping many of the younguns my broody girls hatched out (yes there were nearly 80 I think).....I am going to stick my with old girls, my original flock of 12 or so...a few younger mixed in there too. Plus about half my bantam mottled cochins and the new hamps. Should have right around 20-25 Birds total once all the younguns are sold.

Not showing anywhere august 6th. Rabbit show a couple hours west on the 13. Rabbit show on 9/3 and then TN Valley fair the next weekend.

Heathero doggie steps & pool with a life vest or he'll sink front heavy. Water supports his weight .

I'm definitely not a Nascar fan.

I have a huge problem with how people lost part of their farmland when the Beltway was built. I know it was all for Bristol Motor Speedway's benefit, Having a person's farm "condemned" so the county can take it via eminent domain to build a road, or put up a campground or whatever for just for race fans is wrong. The landowner did NOT get full value of the land.

The beautiful countryside where those cows used to graze is gone.

Dh is a race fan and I can't figure out why he would like such a thing.

The cows r gone!! Oh how terrible, I loved seeing the cows. I was totally unaware of that and the farm. So much beautiful land around that speedway. I was in KS last yr, n missed it. Do u remember the cow that looked like an oreo cookie, black on both ends n a solid white stripe in the middle!

lol its funny you call them Oreos, but up north we call them Holsteins, Oreos are something considered vary different, and on that note, one redeemable thing about this area in general, is the lack of open prejudice, dont get me wrong, its still here, but mostly the "funny" racists, who dont want to be seen as prejudice, but just dont want "those people" around, even though they have friends that are etc.. were up by were im from most are horribly open, proud, and crude with there racism, and can take a at least light more handed approach to it. i also hate the sport of the mentally challenged, or nascar (though ive had good friends that drove nascar, so got to try when was closed once, and it isnt that hard to drive in a circle, even though you could run over skidding slightly on a pebble and crash). so yes, if nascar was demolition derby style id tune in at times, but would rather watch flies fornicate or take a nap. woot! look lorine! there go'in in another circle!

on a odd note, i went to sell or give more of my roosters and a biddy away, and somehow came home with a white half dead Muscovy duck (it was starved and stomped almost to death, then tossed out onto the grass to heal, so any input to pump it up if its crop recovers, would be appreciated), i had to take to get rid of them, and i still have the rooster my drunk (while on the job mind you, but its ok cause he has PTSD from being in another place while real soldiers were fighting in the big litter/sand box), cop neighbor hates!

Sounds like the cow you are referring to was a Dutch Belted. I adore cows, don't they have the prettiest eyelashes? Dh used to help out on a dairy farm when he was a little fella, so he & I had to make a beeline for the livestock exhibit whenever we went to the fair. It's a shame that the Appalachian Fair in Gray has gone downhill the past few years.

Last year, there were plenty of teenagers working the Barnyard Nursery exhibit--ok, it was more like they were spending their time flirting around and texting--anyhow, the chicks didn't have clean water. The exhibit needed an adult to supervise the teenagers who were supposed to be keeping waterers clean and filled, and making sure people's small children weren't squeezing anything to death.

laughingdog--that's sad about the duck. I don't have any advice for you. The only thing I know about ducks is how long it takes for their eggs to hatch because I've hatched duck eggs for a man up the hill.

know how t sex the white Muscovy ducks, as it already accepted howard the duck, and chirps to it for lubbins, so guess ill keep the little morsel (i thought about eating it idly, as love duck), until im absolutely forced to, but going to just start hiding pets if i can either get rid of the one roo doing all the loud hangover hating crowing, and two of my sid taylers maybe. do i just treat howard like a chicken (aside from beating it with a broom if it decides to start attacking me)? lol

you know, fatten it like for slaughter, just restraining from the last part for now (maybe itll be a girl (whats the name for female duck?, as know males are drakes, but forget what females are)? we all know if it makes it to maturity, itll hopefully be getting a mate, cause im just that crazy to use the three hundred gallon cattle trough, for a pond, inside or out (do muscovy eat small or big fish? as have minnows and gold fish that wouid love a planted pond also)! or do they stay on land more like guy said (he was trying to sell me a bunch of very pretty ones as well as more white)?

Not sure, I think a female duck is called a hen, or simply, a duck.

I used to have goldfish pond in the front yard. I asked dh about getting one and he said, "no." Well...I don't like being told I can't do something

, so after he left for work that day and it was my day off, I went right on ahead and dug one. He came home to see me standing in a hole, waist deep. I got my pond and I'll never forget the expression on his face either!

He's on his way home from Morristown, so I better scare up something for supper.

lol id have loved to be a bird on a wire and see that whole thing! so now we have to see the pond pics. i here koi are good with ducks, course duck is good with everything.. mmmmm......... howard cried and shuffled off to burry its head in the corner, when i was testing him for plumpness. hahahahaha im not sure why im still ok with thought of eating the duck, but the chickens im mostly not wanting to anymore, but the pigeons didnt like how i was eying the fat ones, so maybe why they didnt come back with the fattest one finally let out to exercise, but the thin/slimmer formed ones did. when i yell at the birds though i say "come ear" "im gonna eat ya" " i ll do it to" " i dont care" ill eat a baby" and ill eat you too"!

theyre not amused, and oddly it seems to get them going even more.

Well, you would have to be a bird on a wire that went back in time to see it because I filled the pond back in after the last few goldfish died. I think they lasted 6-7 years, definitely not long-lived like koi. Now, there's a Little Gem magnolia there in the pond's place. I had a problem with a very heavy-set former neighbor coming over and standing on the flagstones that formed the pond's border. A few rocks got broken, while some of the others would fall into the water and I would have to get in there and retrieve them. She didn't pay any attention to where she was standing or what she was standing on...maybe she couldn't see over the belly. I've been told that she moved back to the area.
