Hey, does anyone have any standard eggs for hatching? I have 14 sussex in the bator, i'm on day 5 and i'm not seeing anything )O: I dont know if my eyes are working properly, but it seems like all the air cells are detatched, i did some reading and found that they are hatchable but it's not a high likelyhood. If thats the case, and nothing comes of them i'm going to be totally bummed out.

Heather, were those shipped eggs, and are you incubating them vertically? I just tossed eggs yesterday that cost me over $100. Just sickening.

I can offer you some eggs if you don't mind getting some mystery chicks in there. I have Wheaten Marans & Black Copper Marans (hens only). The Wheaten roo has sparse feathering on his shanks while 2 of the Wheaten hens are clean legged. They were hatched last Spring from eggs I got from a breeder in Niota. They were all supposed to be feather-legged, oh well. The big catch is that all my chickens run together in the back yard and I have seen my old EE/SLW roo mate with the BCMs since they sleep in his coop. There's a chance you could get some pure Wheatens and some mystery chicks.

ETA:
What kind of Sussex eggs did you get? There are several Sussex breeders in TN, close enough for a short trip to pick up eggs--that is, if eggs are still available. Click here and scroll down the page.

OMG, I heard this on fox news, but did not see the video. Of course the guy is from a Baptist church. When I told my daughter, she said "I'm never calling myself Baptist again,ha" My first instinct is to be appalled, but when I actually see the video, all I can do is "crack-up"...Bogiddy, Bogiddy, Bogiddy!

Dont be silly. Your heritage dictates a quick reaction to stand up for and stick together with what you thought was a hurtful attack. Just a simple misunderstanding, and of course just like you thought you were standing up for someone....my fellow yankees came to stand up for me ( is this not how the civil war started, better be careful here

) It was all fun and games. We were just sharing funny experiences we have encountered. I am certain that if one of your friends moved up north or to the west coast, that she would call you to talk about how "darn strange" "those people" are. She would not mean to offend anyone, only having a laugh with a friend about differences in people.
At any rate...it takes a bit more than a misunderstanding to get me in a bad mood. This site is about sharing of experiences so we can all learn from each other. Maybe that applies to more than chickens? So with that said. Please dont feel like you need to leave this thread. There are quite a few extremely knowledgeable people here and I for one am having a great time learning.

Sincerely,.

I had an order of 16 eggs that where to be shipped overnight and arrived two days late from GA. the beginning of July. I think they sat in Knoxville for two days before they decided to bring them to me in Gatlinburg. I had a 50% hatch rate. They had been shipped in egg cartons and wrapped in toilet paper. Six of them candled clear on day 12. He is going to send me another set of 8 since they where delayed so long in Knoxville and I had paid for overnight shipping. Is there a special way I should request he wrap/package the eggs?

Well almost all my stock came from hatching eggs shipped in and USED TO I didn't have a problem hardly ever... few people didn't know how to ship, but normally it was good.... in the last year or so, there must be a new person at a main terminal or something because I have had ALOT of roughed up eggs. But also then again for some reason people began thinking putting hatching eggs in egg cartons then shipped in a box was a good idea. THAT causes some major air sack problems. But don't get me on that soapbox of mine.

Yeah I had them shipped, they were packed really well, foam around the entire box, bubble wraped no space to move, they looked great but didnt notice the air cells moving. I would LOVE to get some mystery eggs! LOL i love a mutt of any species! The sussex were light/coronation and light/speckled mixes. I will hold out a teeny bit of hope for a few more days, maybe my thermometer isnt reading right because when i checked they felt a bit cooler than i expected. So i bumped it up a bit more to try and bring it to about 101 or 102. It's been steady 100 for days now according to the thermometer. Maybe i should buy another one and see what it says. I was just so excited about using my new bator and now i'm feeling sorta depressed about it.

Ohh that is very disappointing at the very least but at least the person you got them from is working with you.
