Way to cute cat sleeping with chickens and goats. I had one years ago that slept against my parrots cage.

Anyway speaking of goats. We are getting out place surveyed and mark to put up the 3 fences that we need to bring in other livestock beside chickens. Found a surveyer now need to find someone to do all that fencing. Hubby just does not have time when he gets off the road to reset hours.

HELLO! I need help! My friend has two scovie ducks, and male and a female, they are a pair and must go together! They need to go before the dog hurts them!!! They are free, and need a good home! They are 4 months old, and the male is blue, the hen is lavender with a little white on her. If anyone wants these two PLEASE PM me! Thanks!

I seen one simular... "Forget the dog, beware the cat" LOL!

And Daphne, sounds good.... I understand. For the record, though... I have a doggie door in the back and the cats can come in and out as they please, but they rather all just stay outside except for the 3-5 coldest days of the year. I even built cat shelves that go up the walls in the basement for them to climb and sleep on. I can't believe I'm putting this online... yes, I go through major pains to keep the cats happy.

Oh and I have one that sleeps with the chickens. Yep. I have species confused animals. The goat goes to bed at dusk and eats flock raiser. The cat sleeps with the chickens. And I have a chicken that is BFF with the goat. Cat that thinks it's a dog and dogs who think they are human. Only the rabbit knows it's a rabbit. lol

It is called "Noah's Arc Syndrome."

I have a cat that stays in the hen house while they are out foraging. Had one horse who's BFF was a goose. The goose would stand under him for shade and they ate together. Another horse had a goat das it's BFF. If separated one of them would call until the other came running. (goat buddies is a common thing with those who show horses letting them travel with them to keep them calm) One of my cats tries to "mother"my chicks when they are little. If one gets out he retrieves it and brings to me. He has a really "soft" mouth. My dogs best friend was one of out barn cats which also would lay on the horses backs. AND I use to raise domestic capped rats for school projects in classes. One got out and after a month of looking happen to see him coming out of the goat hutch to eat with them. Animal species do not seem to have boundaries all the time. Glad to find I am not the only one to have this type activity on my farm.

Bario...I remember your dog from the poultry show. He was beautiful.

I have an adult neutered orange tabby that may have to find a new home. He is the old fashioned type with the long nose and heavy body...big cat! Really laid back. He loves on the other cats but for some reason all he wants to do is fight with my personal cat who is a little thing and I have had to treat 3 bite wounds on her already. He comes indoors sometimes and spends the night but he loves being outdoors. We inherited him from some people up the road who moved off and left him. He was already spending most of the day here anyway so it became permanent. Other than my cat he doesn't bother dogs and has not shown any real interest in the chickens. He has run after a couple but was not much effort to it. The chickens actually kinda blew him off.

I NEVER have mice in my hen house barn or house due to my cats.

So...if anyone is interested PM me.

No, you aren't the only one at all. If you go to my website there is a picture of Margeret with Hoby... Margeret is the Delaware and Hoby is the goat. They were inseperable. My new goat, Chester, he is the one who thinks he is a chicken... I tried to break him of sleeping in the hen house by pulling him out one night and he cried like I was taking his hooves off with a dull knife. So he won. It lasted all of 2 minutes. lol! BTW, the nest boxes are barely raised off the ground and 4ft long, with dividers... well, Chester saw the chickens get in the nests and took a divider out by breaking it.... guess where he sleeps.... IN THE NEST!!! I give up trying to get him to understand he is a goat.

BTW, anyone going to the Morganton, NC show other than me?! I'm not showing... there is talk about working the Friday before and I work nights, so I don't get off until 5am.... not putting myself through the stress of trying to make check in times, but I will be there midday to deliver some Delawares I have pre-sold and hopefully some more I got for sale. Oct. 29th... there is a thread here on it.

So, today was an egg hunting day! HAHA My RIR has been laying for a few weeks now, and laying quite well, and my leghorn just started laying about a week ago. Well, every morning I'd find my leghorn had flown over the 6 foot run wall where the deer netting isn't at, and I got fed up with the idea of never finding her so today I grabbed her up and clipped one side of her wings... So, I noticed I wasn't getting any brown or white eggs for a few days now... Well, after hubby got home I decided to go look in the boxes and found 2 brown eggs. YAY! Well, I figured maybe the white ones were under the chicken coop... nope, but I recently stowed away an aquarium that I was raising chicks in under there and found 2 more brown eggs... okay... So, as I'm leaving hubby spots a white egg in the corner of the run, I was like great, she's been laying on the ground then they could be anywhere... as I walk out the run and to my immediate right there was some weeds we havn't pulled up laying over 4 white eggs in a little area that she made a nest in the grass... So, I got 9 eggs today

You mean lock them in the chicken coop? I havn't let them out of the run, the leghorn was clearing the run and the RIR layed half in the box and half outside(under the coop)... I have fake eggs in the boxes to lure them to lay in the boxes...

Yes, lock them up in the coop. If you haave extra fake eggs put another in each box. It will help for hens like to lay in popular sites.

I free range and when my new ones are starting to lay I locak them in for a couple of days. I also put 3 fake eggs in each box for the first month. This really helps traiin them.

Does anyone have buff brahmas ? I am looking for some nonhatchery stock for some chicks in the spring.
