Ummmm... So, can I buy some of that wormer from you? I thought the drop in egg production was due to molt, but they're all done and still no eggs. I also have a girl that is really pale. You said it was Valbazen, right? Doesn't that help with external parasites, too, or am I just making that up?

I am glad you mentioned that.. I wanted to get some from you too Bario..since no one is laying it is a good opportunity to do it now. But tell me...course I am still learning on some of this..you don't eat their eggs for 21 days..,right?? What if they do not lay? Do you count those days? I am still working thru "Chickens for Dummies" book.

Since it not really approved for chickens, that is debatable. The best I can come up with from all the info and looking at the half life of the med is that 14 days is sufficient on eggs (14 days from the day you give them the meds, no matter if they lay or not). Now I dont think I would slaughter for 30 days though. Harley ate them from 3 days on and I will have some 13 days out. The chemical base for Valbazen is safe on humans NOT FDA Approved though)
It has however been tested on goats at 10 times the effective dosage with no ill side effects at all except dead worms. It is supposed to be at least as safe as ivermectin (which IS actually approved by FDA for humans) I am pretty comfortable with it. Everybody in the coop is doing great, look great, and laying like crazy. I'll keep my schedule to twice a year unless I actually see roundworms again (yuck)

Bario...if you want me to come get mine that is no problem. I am in White Pine so not much of a drive for me. Have you ever used Denagard? A friend suggested my using it for the 2 hens that just will not get rid of what ever it is they have along with Oxine. It is a little pricey but like Oxine very concentrated. Here is a link for some info on it. They use it alot in the UK.

Nice to know not too far from where I live. It's a nice drive too. Do you know if his Marans are french standard{feathered legs}? That is what I am looking for.

Hello, I have two pullets from Randy I got in the spring and they have nice feathered legs. They have been laying for several months now and the egg color is still good (but a little lighter now).
Here they are:

I will try to get photos of the chickens later on for you. The lighter one is from my Swedish Flower Hen. Her eggs are finally starting to get a little larger.

Never heard of that one at all. Ill check it out though and see is it is disinfectant or antibiotic.

Be sure and let me know how many birds you both are treating so I can have the right amount mixed up. I'll mix it for 1cc for LF and 1/2 for banty

Denagard is used for chickens as an antibiotic. Especially for resp. problems. My friend said she has had a great deal of success with both her own chickens and flocks she has treated for others. It is a bit pricey....$52 and some change for a quart but like most things like this it is very concentrated. I am ordering some the first of the week.

I have 22 LF and 15 bantams. I will be glad to finally start getting eggs....feel guilt as crap when I buy store eggs.

That would be awesome if you could bring me some. What would I do without you?

I would love to see pictures of your babies. Mine did the same thing. One minute they were gangly, the next all poofy. They're still not as wide as they're going to be, though. They've not developed the waddle, yet.
