I am near Birchwood Elementery! We were just that way this past weekend. There is a little old man named Andrew (I think that is his name), that sits at the Soddy Hill Flea Market sometimes. He always has chickens, in various ages for sale, and they are clean and healthy. I have not talked to him in a few months, but last time I did he was selling trio's for 20.00. You can also call Lucky's Feed. They can hook you up with a bunch of people who sell chickens. Just don't let Brian talk you into a pig. :p

So I just discovered there is a thread that has people just down the road from me! That's so cool to know that within just a few miles of me there are people raising chickens. I'm within 1/8 mile from Kevin Brown Burger's on Mahan Gap.

Do any of you locals know a reputable place where I can get pullets that are about ready to lay? I've got a new pen and would like to start off with some hens about that age as I don't have a good place for some day old chicks to grow until they are OK to be outside.

Any reply would be appreciated!

Hey A man named Larry in McDonald,TN Is a chicken trader. I have gotten chickens from him and he has bought them from me. He travels to all the shows and trades alot. He mostly deals with common breeds but sometimes runs over rare ones. But as with any trade of mass chickens you just have to watch what you get. But, I got some nice RIR's and golden comets from him last year. I wormed and fattened them up. They became great birds super friendly. But I sold them a few weeks ago to thin down my flock to make room for the new chicks. If you want his number let me know.

The males are pretty big. The hen's we have now is as big as our welsh drake, maybe just a tiny bit bigger, but not by much. The Muscovy Drake is as big in body as the Canada goose that calls us home, but shorter.

**Don't go catch a wild goose. We got a pardon and she is allowed by the state to be here as long as we do not pen her in any way. She is free to fly off, she just chooses not too.**

We have baby chicks hatched now

and call eggs are now in the incubator, those stubborn girls decided to start laying, will soon be up to my neck in duck eggs lol.

Ohhh so I guess I'm keeping the big coop and oeg's for now. I just checked the eggs she is sitting on and they are fertile, veins running all through at least one of them, I didn't want to check any more because she was getting mad at me. Mini mille fleur oeg bantams wheeeee

Good to know. I'll check out the Soddy Hill Flea Market next weekend and stop by Lucky's and see what they have. If I walk out with a pig, I'll let you know! :)

If you can get me his number, I'd like to check out what he has, especially if you've had good luck with him. I'm just looking for my first few chicks and want to make sure that I start off with healthy chicks. Thanks!

Well went to gather eggs today from our hen coop and found one that was way different, I know my hens didnt lay this one so its safe to say our standard bronze hen is laying now. Got another call egg today, before long we will have babies running everywhere.
I am looking for some young laying hens, the darker the eggs the better per family prefrence if anyone has any let me know.

Well, in case any newbies missed it. There is a get together of the BYCers on April 1st (not a joke!) at Panther Creek State Park at 1pm(?) out in the middle of nowhere (just looked at a map! It's in BFE!!!)
