Anyway, going to veer the conversation towards the picnic. June the 23rd, does anyone remember the time we set? I was thinking sometime between 10:30am-12pm, I hate eating a late lunch. Don't forget if you want to do the present, bring a small farm related gift unwrapped for the swap thing.

Oh, and bring a big appetite!

Anyone ever have a chick with a swollen eye that looks like its going to pop out of its socket? It just hatched out 2 days ago and I noticed last night while taking pics that the eye was bulged out of the socket and is red in the middle. Here are 2 pics.

Ok, noon it is!!

I'm glad I'm not a wedding planner, I'd have been killed by now by a bridezilla.

ETA: Thank you Rodney

All this snake talk takes me to 2 weeks ago. I'm cleaning my aquarium and my husband is pouring the "old" water on my roses. I finally realize he's outside too long when he calls me to the door. When I reach to take the 5 gallon bucket from him, he's looking inside--so like a dummy I don't ask but look inside too. I start screaming and telling him I'm going to do bodily harm. He's surprised," It's just a snake", "what kind of snake", I ask?" I don't know", he says," It's a yellow striped garter--put it in the woods and NEXT time tell me there's a snake in the bucket", I say. Still can't believe he didn't tell me first, seems he poured water over it and the corgi noticed it first, she has herded baby king snakes up the driveway before,

. I'm the former city girl, but I did have him put it in the pasture to keep the poisonous snake GONE.

Do you remember the stray cat that adopted me last summer? I had a tolerate / hate relationship with her until a couple of weeks ago.

There was a big ruckus in the woods and a HUGE black snake came racing out across the path to the coop. The cat was hot on its tail. She chased it to the edge of the property then came back to the coop.

I know that black snakes are good, but this one likes to sun itself just in the bend of the path to the coop. I walk up on it all the time and have to scream and high-step-run back to the house.

So, the cat is my friend, now. She found the one creature that gives me more heeby-jeebies than cats.

On a related note, my little dog found a little ringneck and almost passed out. He stood 10 feet from it, barking his head off. He was first to retreat, so I guess the ringneck won. Bless him...

Owww. That looks painful.

Do yo think it hatched out like that or it just got that way recently?

Stang, sorry I didn't return your message the other day. I left my phone in the house. I'll post pictures here in a little bit as to what I was up to...

If it did not hatch like that then it may have been pecked in the eye by other chicks. That is why many put something red in with new babies because they see the red reflection dot in another ones eye so....they peck it. I put red cola caps in with mine if I see them doing this. You can run a wash in it with artificial tears in case it is causing any pain.
