I am Peed-Oed at Tennessee Farmer Coop over feed quaility.

I thought I would give them a shot at layer pellets.

The 1st sack that I fed out was good and they laid well on it.

The 2nd sack is 1/3 fines.

It doesn't do well in my 10 pound feeder and the hens don't like fines.

Fines=dust or corn mill texture.

I left them on Starter/Grower Crumbles over the same thing.

Is am one else had this problem with them or any other feed mill?

I am pretty sure that they are holding back on the binder that holds the pellet together.

I've never had this problem with TSC's Dumor feed.

I plan on taking this sack back to Washington County Farmers Coop on Monday afternoon, after I get up to go work night shift.
You can use up the fines by adding boiling water and making a "grits" type dish for the cold mornings. they will love it and at least it saves the waste. But I would switch as well

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am going to cut in and post an updated pic of the Orpingtons from Tennesseeckn. They are doing very well: growing like weeds, eating & pooping lots more, etc. I am still betting on 3 pullets & 1 cockerel but it is probably wishful thinking on my part. I have never had/raised any English type Orps before so its mainly a guess. I also updated the folder on my profile page with close up pics if anyone wants to look/guess at the sexes. My apologies for breaking in.

The one in the back is a definate boy... the two on the left girls... one on the right.... boy?!?!? EH?!?! lol

yep..your crazy. Speaking of crazy though...I have a couple wel-dels that are f-1 from the daughter of one of the dels I got from you. I culled one roo and then ended up loosing the other so my father in law currently has the old ladies now. But one of their pure bred daughters mated with my main roo now (welsummer) and so I hatched out two wel-dels

Let me know how that turns out... I'm betting it will look something like one of my Del crosses I have. She looks like a Delaware with a sunburn, if you can imagine that. Something tells me I'll have to photo her tomorrow.

x2 I usually take the fines and mix them with buttermilk & sometimes add cooked eggs to it. I only buy Dumor or Purina feed but when the feeders get very low there is still fines in the bottom.

Here is the boy now... This is when he was younger and unfixed (and, yes, I took him to the vet and he was actually neutered, not banded). He is bigger now, but he is the best goat!

We talked about getting him a couple other goats but he cries when he is away from the layer flock so as long as he is happy. Though, he has killed two chickens by accident before. Long story, but I'm not mad. It was bound to happen and it was a bad weather day that added to it.

tnchickenut, he is very sweet looking, the story about him trying to roost is hilarious! So being around the chickens seems to keep him content? I was told that they need at least one more goat because they are herd animals. Some friends of mine that live in Englewood used to have goats, I'm not sure if they still have any now, but they have a miniature donkey. I'm trying to do research on goats to see if it is something I want to do because I would like to have a doe so that I can actually use the milk to make cheese.

Oh my goodness......I am going to be gone for 5 days...I can only imagine how many post will here by then. Stang...I want to change my guess!!!!!

Hopefully there will be wi-fi near us or I see myself doing a lot of reading! It is wonderful though to see how much we have grown. Thank you Bario for thinking of such a great forum.
This is our first vacation in 12 years so we are giddy with excitement.

I know I will worry about my babies while I am going. I have someone caring for them and my son will be checking in on them. It is just the "mother hen" in me.

The 2 with head colds are still sneezing. Hopefully the Sulmet will kick in. I was wondering if I should change to Dermycin. After loosing 2 pair of my showgirls to the mink this is my last breeding pair.
Another thing to do with fines is mix in with oatmeal. I tried co-op 1 time and the bag was at least 1/3 fines....didn't do that again. All of their feed is inferior and I will gladly pay a couple dollars more for better quality. I have been a Purina user for many years because they put a percentage of the money back into improving their products. I will say though the last bag of Layena I bought was pretty dusty. My hens love Hubbard though and I have had good results with it.
Everyone have a wonderful week and I will hopefully keeping up while I am gone.
