Turkey? That's better than my measly looking faces I attempt to carve into an orange gourd. Mine usually start out as a Jack O' Lantern and turn into Jack O' pumpkin pie.
Yeah I have a thing for turkeys that I keep a secret. I don't own a turkey, never have owned a turkey... I always wanted to have them, so last spring I went and decided I would get my turkey meat by hunting one. Well, I bought the shotgun, the camo, the ammo, the decoys, the calls, the blinds, the field gear... you get the point. I got to go out only once because of my work schedule and didn't ever see the bird. Just had a nice conversation with him.... "eeerr eeerr eeeer" and me, "EEERRR EERRRR EEEERRR!!!!!" LMAO!!! I have learned more since... next spring (if my doctors let me) I'll get that Tom.

I bought six chicks at a day olds . Ended up with 3 hens and 3 roos. He is the best and the only one I kept. Plan on breeding him to those three and 3 that are Bev Davis / Wade Jean bloodlines. Hope to hatch out alot in the spring.
He is pretty, that is for sure. That is a good breed to have... like I said, I like wheaten Marans. I used to have breeding sets, but lost the roos and never replaced them. I have to try to remember that just because I like a breed doesn't mean I need to breed it. (can you tell I'm trying to convince myself of that when I say it?)

Very interesting! Steven and I really wanted to go hunting last year, and we learned need a hunting safety course to do it.. and by the time we learned this they weren't offering any for the rest of the year. This year unfortunately have so much school stuff can't make it to the ridiculous hours of the classes.. So, he might go ahead and do it or we'll wait til next year... We'll just go to our local processor and buy some I guess. We love making the ground meat into spicy borritos!

I fall under the exemption because I have military experience. But yeah, I highly recommend following all the laws to a "T"... seems like a hassle at times but they are there for a reason.

Maybe one day, one season we can hunt turkey together. That is my problem... I don't have a mentor and am teaching myself using only my poultry skills. I can talk chicken... learning to talk turkey. LOL!!

Does anyone want any free range cows? I do not need to watch "The Walking Dead" and go out my back door in the dark to hear feet running around! So I am now awake & sending son out after them. But seriously these cows have been free range on and off for 6 months & on constant free range for the last month. They are wild & the local animal control guy was almost injured after he lassoed one. I am tired of sliding in their poop & trying to clean up after they have trampled through the yards, barns, gardens, flower beds, etc.

Cool! I don't normally break laws

really wish the classes were more flexible... they want you to be going 4 times in one week to cover 12-16 hours worth of material.. I can't go because I'm at school on Tues. & Thurs. all night... I would be a bad turkey hunter, I'd be the one screaming "gobble gobble gobble" (kidding of course)!

I wonder how much the processing costs on one of those?! I'd love to put some beef in my freezer (especially grass fed)!

ETA: BTW, WHY IN THE HECK WOULD YOU WATCH THAT MOVIE?! I can't imagine, I hate scary movies and have been hearing people complain about how scared they are now.

I don't know about processing costs but when I mentioned it my father-in-law said he would not eat it. He said something about them running loose, not vetted and it would not be good? I have heard them say if you process a beef, hog, etc it needs to be put up & kept off the pasture for a certain amount of time to keep it from eating wild onions & other things so the meat will not taste bad.
