Yeah, I was actually set to go to the show Saturday but my chicken friend and ride has mandatory overtime too. Probably a good thing. I would be likely to buy too many birds. I need a GOOD grey call drake, and if the quality was there I could stand to have a few more girls in bantam Barred Rocks. But you know I would end up taking on one or two more breeds or colors.

I love ducks and wish I could have some but they do not last around here...we can't even keep geese. Snapping turtles and coons...I hate both! I am glad you mentioned in a previous post about the smaller chicks not being able to eat the chick starter...a friend of mine has had a problem raising Japs. They live for a few days and then die..now I have some info that will help her. Thanks
what about using fermented feed? there is a post about it for meat birds and beekissed has a thread I'm following on return her laying flock to condition after giving them up for a year:
The road less traveled...back to good health! They have lice, mites, scale mites, worms, anemia, gleet, feather--I'm going to try this after cold weather. I would try it now but I don't have a space to let it set that's warm enough. Purina has a coupon right now $3.00 off layna with omga 3.

I'm completely confused by your post. What about fermented feed? If feed gets wet, it should not be used... there is also a shelf life to feed.

And who has a flock that they gave up and got back? Sorry... I'm just confused.

I was a bit confused too... were you quoting someone amenfarm? I couldn't tell

Could I buy two hens? Would that be possible? If it is trouble and would be easier for you to just sell them at the show, I understand.
I almost missed your post. I don't mind if that's what you want to do, I'll let you choose which 2, they need to be handled if you want more friendly... they'll run up to me when I have feed, but then they'll realize it's me and run the other direction... goofy things... I tried to get them friendly from the time they got to my house but they refused to get near me... they're a very stand-offish breed so if you prefer not to get them I'll understand.

Sorry, I'll try to fix this... I have been reading two threads concerning using ferment feeds, one is, Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds, and the other from beekissed is, The road less traveled...back to good health! They have lice, mites, scale mites, worms, using FF on a layer flock. I thought that in the face of raising birds that the feed is too large for,FF, would be a great solution. This last thread is how she re-conditioned her flock after giving them up to farmers who were wanting to try her methods, and the trials shes gone through to bring them back to good health in a greener fashion. I am sorry I confused anyone

. To understand how to use feed after it's been allowed soak with ACV-- to ferment...well,you'll have to read it and tell me if you think it's worth trying. Bario has been reading the last thread--he may have a thought on it by now. I am considering trying this when we ever get broiler chicks--seem to really help with the stinky poop and diarrhea problem the CX's have.

I think that the fermented feeds is going to be trying it out keeping a record of the amounts of feed you feed before and noting ant changes after changing over--at least that's what I'm planning on trying when we can reclaim space in the barn,(recycling lumber for the large coop) it just the thing for pasty butt?! My golden retriever had a time with dry dog food I switch him to soaked feed (not FF) and it has made a huge difference in his hurling the food back up--because of that and reading about it, I would really be willing to try FF--so until spring I'm reading, and need to record amounts of feed used. Nothing tried, nothing learned--and because of this thread and BYC I've learned a tremendous amount in a short time. Funny how many things my grandpa did for his birds and stood the test of time. For the ones keeping more than 1 flock, I'd love to see someone try this on 1 flock while keeping another on the same food without it being Fermented. I won't be able to do this until we acquire some broilers.
