Oh my...I had not really thought about the image. Wow I can go to so many places with this. I wonder if Bario sneezes hard he gets a chick??

Trust me, it's hard to decide that final moment of their life. But I just sit quiet and thank them (honestly... and aloud) and I think about the horrors of how grocery store birds get there and how they lived before that. I think about how the rooster had it good here, and for the better of the whole he needs to go. Can't keep them all.
I agree with the horrors of grocery store birds. I see the Koch trucks loaded with chickens headed for Morristown & I could cry every time. The poor birds. You are right they have had a good life here & I can't keep all the cockerels or old nonproductive ones. I am hoping to get there soon maybe come Spring.....yes that's right feed them all Winter & loose money....I know but baby steps for me.

. I am recalling my last guess: I am going back to my original 3:1 ratio in favor of pullets. LOL this will change at least weekly for a while but I am still calling the 2 white/black EEs as pullets.

I'm hoping to see into the eggs this way!!! muahahahahaha!!

You go! I would probably have to be starving, sit & discuss it with the bird and end up eating tree bark or something. I truly wish I had it in me. I might be able to eat it if I sent it somewhere to be done & saw none of the process but its doubtful. And I would cry like a baby- this is the one thing I am sure of. Maybe one day?
I couldn't either. To me it is like sitting your dog down and saying "thanks for everything, but I gotta eat you now!" I just can't eat something that I've named.

congrats on the light. I hope it works for you. I am currently researching mealworms. I think I may give it a try. Does anyone mealworm farm?

Quote: yep.. true with most blues I am understanding. I'm still trying to keep the genes straight. Most people say blue is a recessive gene? It is actually what they call an incomplete dominant ( I just learned that one). With barred rocks the black is APA color, but splash is not of course. If I'm not mistaken though a black rooster over splash hens will give me 100% blue. My problem with this is the eggs I got are already a few generations in. So if I cant get at least non related splash or any more blues from somewhere, then I should only go another few generations so I don't actually screw the breed up. So instead of searching for blues, I will search for anyone that has a splash pop out of their barred's.
