HA!!! That is funny. I got a EE that lays in the tall grass that I never get to weedeat around the runs... it looks exactly like a hiden egg. I can see where he made the mistake. lol

That is the first step... the second is getting a mean rooster (makes it easier on you)... after a few it will be less of a deal. You can do it! When I need a "pep talk" I go online and watch a video or two of animal rights group's investigations in those "farms" and processing plants. It might work for you too... at that point it would be either your birds or no chicken for dinner.

sadly the laws are designed seemingly to try to keep Americans detached from our food, probably to keep us dependent on substandard meat and eggs, which are making us sick, if you believe the media. so humane treatment and animal rights aside, im going out on a limb sounding like all those conspiracy nuts probably, and saying it should be presented how most panicky masses would listen, that is sell it as a health issue, like how the gov sold it as health issue to become detached from our food sources, as most would starve to death, before even thinking to eat the chicken crossing the road, or those yucky fresh eggs they know now comes out of a chicken's butt. lol i for one cannot go back to what tastes like rotten/spoiled eggs to me from the store (that have been sitting for weeks to monthes). so remember, if it floats, it shouldn't float with you.. i just needed to vent.

The average egg on a grocery shelf is 3 months old. How is that good?

I have the same soapbox. Don't worry. People wonder why they get sick off of fast food... did you know the USDA allows a certain percentage of manure in your beef? It's easier than hand butchering the way they used to... that chain blade can just keep going if the poo off the intestines is ALLOWED to be there.

Don't get me started. Seriously. I'll be banned from BYC once I get going.

lol or that like its ok to have sick people processing sick animals, and that the recommended temps, which take the flavor and most nutrition out, how theyre cooked at less than half of what itd actually take to kill only some of the bacteria.

Blech! I know who to call when it's time for me to put the boys in crates for the long trip!

Just a fast note. My second batch of eggs in incubator are hatching. Woke to a chick yelling for i did not take out tuner. They are hatching early again on me.

i still feel terrible about it, but butchering etc is just part of how i grew up learning how to do hunting and farming activities, and just more respectful than dissociating yourself from that part of life (when out on a farm, fishing and hunting, and told you are only going to eat what you can kill and scroung up, you learn to kill, but also the respect that should be in it). its "sport" hunting i dont get, as unless you ran it down and killed it with your bare hands, it wasnt very "sporting" i think..

im finding that different hen's eggs hatch at different times. on a good note, im finally at the time resisting incubating more eggs.
course now to many to eat.. made decision to sell six hens at least. also going to sell off the chicks, quail (debating keeping a trio of babies), and debating silkies to stay or go as theyre amusing and already trying to steal eggs to brood unless one of them is laying now to (i keep finding little blueish egg under the silkie ball, and they bite at me when i try to take it, but figure could just be brooding instinct). i know i should downsize alot more, but for now im just able to part with this majority of the lot. also my OEGB roos, and possibly the double sizzle roo(?).

Hi, not sure if I am posting in the right spot or not. I live in Cocke county and am looking for a couple of hens that will lay LARGE white eggs. With the research ive done I think im looking for Andalusian, Leghorn or Minorca. Im not particular on the bird, it wont be for show or anything, would like a couple of them if possible. I decorate eggs as a hobby and the store bought white eggs are USELESS. The shells are thin, full of imperfections etc. I have been using small white eggs but would love to use the big white eggs. My daughters chickens are brown egg layers, the dye isnt as vibrant on brown eggs, and then we have her ameraucana(easter egger not really sure) hen. The blue eggs are fascinating to work with but again the dye is more vibrant on a white egg.

Ohhh on a side note, my daughter just hatched out 4 little ameraucana/easter egger chicks. They are SOOO cute.
