It's a doe! That seems to be the one everyone likes! LOL
I like them all...but sadly, the hubby says "You are getting chickens, so no bunnies."

But he did finally give in and is letting me get a rooster in the yard. So its progress. And he has been awesome to help me build my little chicken paradise. So Terry, hatch me a blue Silkie roo!

@littlechicklet I love your avitar. That is a cool looking pooch. I have been meaning to tell you that, but chicken out of posting much. Seems when I do, I binge post several and then catch myself and quit. I have learned a lot on here though.

TNBarnQueen & lunar- you both make me want to get an incubator & hatch eggs. This is not possible since my chickens are not putting out any eggs & I am all out of room.
Well...just throw up a hoop coop and buy ya some eggs~

@Luna....mine has a fan. I think the newer ones like mine come standard like that. I will see if I can find the company I got mine from tomorrow and post it. Hey....I do good to get 2 eggs a day! So I am buying some of the eggs I have been looking for and doing test hatches. Eggs are a bit less costly this time of year. But I am spending the winter working on my breeding stock next year. Hopefully will be adding some nice new colors and 1 new breed.
I have 2 blue SG roos that are going to the Newport show!

I need a regular Silkie

And he must be spectacular for my little girls.

What new breed are you going for?

Lunar- thank you. He is my dh's but they all seem to follow me. I hope binge posting is not a bad thing because I tend to do it when I am trying to catch up or just get to rambling.

TNBarnQueen- thanks for trying to enable me but its not going to work. I am spending all my blow money on these darn chickens as it is!

Okay my mealworms seem to be doing good. I have some that are already going to the pupa stage. Ewwww
sickbyc.gif
I am trying really hard to deal with them but when I opened the lid on the container they came in & dumped them in their temporary house it was so gross! The whole thing started moving like you see in the horror flicks.

I do not have as many as I started with (I seem to keep giving them to the chickens). And before you start on me: I know they are not really a worm but the larva of the darkling beetle, they are dry, do not smell, can't crawl out, etc but they are giving me the creeps.

I pick them up with my hands now... but I thought they were gross at first too. Try having thousands and watching the bedding move around. LOL!!

And if you feed them all, you wont' have any to breed.

Bet ya'll missed me. I was at the ER a week straight of migranes and they know nothing. Just got pills and shots. Doctors. Hmph.

Thank you all for your help. It is 5:30 a.m., and I am sure he isn't going to make it. He's too weak. Tried giving water, but it is too far gone. Isn't it a shame that by the time I figure it out, I can't do anything? He was an amzing chicken. He was my first. I've had him for almost 9 months. When we got him, I thought he was a hen. (I had no idea he was even a barred rock - we thought he was a dominque) After two months, he began crowing. We thought we had a crowing hen. We had him and a New Hampshire hen in a chicken tractor. He would watch over her as if his very life depended on her being safe. He would eat out of our hands, and he loved him some mealworms. When he would free range every afternoon, he would always end up on my shoulder or sitting beside my on the picnic table. After we got more chickens and build a small coop, he would sit with me on my little bench in front of the coop and guard everyone. He would start out on one side of the bench and slowly scooted over to sit right beside me. When he first started feeling bad, he loved coming inside to get his shot and eat yogart off the ritz cracker. When I was outside anywhere in the yard I could yell "good morning", and he would crow back at me. He knew the sound of my car and when I would get out, he would crow at me as if to say "come see me."

I sat with him this afternoon in the sun. He sat in my lap and I thanked him for being such a wonderful rooster. I think he understood. It is amazing how a simple chicken can make you so happy and love you even when you are at your worst. I loved him. I've slept in the guest room the past two nights with him in a box beside me. His breathing is labored now, and he is weak. My selfishness is keeping me from just putting him down.

But I'm okay. If I can feel this way over a bird that has only been here less than a year, I know I will keep learning and these chickens are my lesson. God is good. All the time.

itsthelaw-

I think most things (animal or human) enter our lives for a reason. We carry our experiences with them always. You were very fortunate to have such a loving rooster and he will be the one all others are judged by. I hope with time you will be able to see what a truly wonderful gift he was to you. If you continue to keep chickens there will be others that will touch your life in a similar way. I just keep thinking of all the pets I have had and how during their "short" time with we I have evolved into a better owner. I am very sorry.

tnchickenut-

I am also sorry about your migranes. At best doctors provide educated guesses and at worst they throw pills at every symptom and follow it with more pills for the side effects of the pills they gave you first. I hope you find a doctor or doctors you trust and can get the relief you are seeking. If one doctor does not work out do not hesitate to look elsewhere for a doctor who will listen and explore all possible treatment avenues.

I am not going to allow any enabling.

My resolve is strong enough to keep myself in check so far.
