There was a man at the show today that beautiful bantam cochin...BareBottom bought an exceptional pair of white ones. The man and his wife have been raising them for 30 years. He does ship and they are, as I said, high quality. I think he said he lives above Greeneville. I am going to try to get his contact info Monday. Will post it when I find out.

@Itsthelaw....I am wondering who will spoil the roo the most..you or Tommy.

Tommy had that light in his eye!! They are Belgium D'Uccles. Yes..the hen is not quite 18 mo. and the roo was hatched in May...and he already knows his job with the ladies. It was so nice to meet you two. Now maybe I can trap this weasel with his help. I can't afford to have the losses next year that I had this year. Yes..they make little sounds that are so funny. Roos tend to "growl" a lot. But the D'Uccles are distinctive in a lot of their sounds.

@Lunar....thank you so much for your help today..it was very nice to get to know you. As always.. I enjoyed seeing everyone.!!
thank you - obviously I have several contacts/others I've bought from but one can never have too many contacts. My problem right now is finding JUST pullets/hens. I need NO MORE roos

I think there is a GA show thread. Give me some time to settle from walking in the door and I'll try to find it.
thanks - I did find this but it provides very little info. http://www.poultryshowcentral.com/Carpet_City_Bantam_Club.html
I did find it is at the fairgrounds on Legion Dr. (where ever that is)
& it is a bantam show - right up my alley. Not looking to show, just want to check out what may be for sale. Guess I'll find a contact for the fairgrounds and hopefully get more info. (times, etc.) or just show up @ 8am in the morning..

Well, today was a wondy day. I officially became a Serama owner and picked up my D'uccle hen. I also made some nice contacts for the last breed on my list....OEGB. I found a great breeder of Ginger Reds. (btw-Stacy- your OEGB birds were awesome that you bought) I had a blast meeting some of you and putting a face to the names on the list.

bairo-- my fab four took right to the bucket...thank you

AJ -- I LUV MA BIRDS! Even tho they were a bit of a chore to get down off the top of the coop when I went to put them up.

Terry -- thanks for putting up with me all day and letting me hang out. As always, I learned a ton from you. And my little D'uccle politely went into the coop and laid claim to the middle nesting box. She was still in it when I went out at 11 just to check on them. But then she decided to hop up on a roosting bar with the Serama's just before I came back in. They seemed to be ok in that huge coop.

To all you guys that were there and I got the pleasure of meeting, it was great to chat.

Hello everyone,

My name is Linda Lawson from Georgetown, TN-between Chattanooga and Cleveland. I was at the Newport show yesterday and enjoyed meeting several of you. Sorry I asked so many questions!! Hopefully now instead of just being an eavesdropper I can become involved. Again, glad I met you all.

tnchickenut..........I keep eyeing AJ's mealworm farm...so...how much with shipping to send me one?? Also BareBottom's is interested as well so they could be sent together. I have fell in love with those little containers!! Getting a couple tomorrow...will figure out something to put in them!
Terry thank you for bringing that back for me.
Also I told dad when he goes and gets feed to make sure to get an extra bag for you to try.

Beth, I am glad you liked them. Sorry they tried to come back home

Mine only seem to get air born when they are spooked.
As they get used to you they will calm way down, unless spooked.
Besides how would you like to be caged up, hauled around, handed off to a stranger, hauled around and left in a strange place.
Would make me want to escape and fly away also.

Hello Linda. Was good to meet you also. And officially WELCOME to the thread.
Eavesdroppers are fine but being a member is a whole lot more fun.

Besides when you ask questions on here,
we have so many knowledgeable people that you can get the best answers available.
And we ALL get to learn from each other.

Where some of us have experience on some things, others have it on other things.

If there was a way to combine ALL the knowledge that we ALL have, we would know it ALL.

Hey wait I already think "I know it all".

Just kidding.
I learn from these good, friendly, nice people each and every day.

And for that I would like to tell everyone "THANK YOU".

I keep my feed mealies in a plastic christmas bowl with whole oats and carrots.. You can use any thing that has slick sides.. I have rasied mealies in the passed but I didnt like the beetles being in with the worms..

Hi Linda,
Glad you posted. It was nice to meet you yesterday.

@AJ--they were walking around the coop this morning and came out on their own. They let me pick each up and handle them much better this morning. They had eaten and drank, so I wasn't so worried. I went out there at 2am, cause I was worried about them being cold. They looked at me like "stupid human, we are trying to sleep"

@Terry---that little D'uccle is parked in her favorite box as we speak....think she might lay??? She came out for a few minutes then went back up the ramp and back to the same box she claimed last night. In fact she pulled hay out of another box to add to hers. So, 5 had hay this morning and one was bare. lol

To All:

I am so sorry that I could not stay and spend more time with everyone at the Newport show yesterday.

It was good to meet Beth and Linda.

Maybe the next time I will not have as much to do and will be able to spend more time visiting.

@Lunar...you can hang with me any time!! And it really does give you the opportunity to learn a lot just by being around chicken people. I hope the young man who came to talk to us about his roo and looking for seabrights (if anyone raises them please post) . I wrote down how to find us here so hopefully he will join soon. He is new at this and wants to learn ,,,,I think his name was Tony.

@AJ...just let me know when you are ready for the mealworms.I am really having fun watching them. The set up Stacy does is wonderful and very simplified. I posted for her that I would like one too!

@StacyTN...I would bet money the people my friend bought her pair of cochin bantams will be at that show. He is a very serious breeder...I mean if you have been doing it for that many years he has to be. He was selling pairs for $40 and as I said he does ship. I am contacting one of the women who is head of the show and I am sure she can tell me who it was.

@Daphne....I sooooo missed you.

If anyone plans on buying silkie chickens from Shagbark Silkies....they have changed their name. Mainly because they are in so much trouble. They had been accepting payment for chickens from people then never sent the chickens. And what they have on their site is not what they sell. I almost did last year..glad I didn't. She told me what it was changed to but I cannot remember. I know it was something odd.
I am so happy!!! All 3 of my chickens placed!!! My little white Ameracauna took 1st BOV and RB. Came home to a chicken hatching..so I had better start setting things up.,.more will be following soon!!
