I have silver laced and golden laced wyandottes. After speaking to others about theirs and my experience, I have found the silvers easier to handle. The goldens just don't warm up to you. We have handled them from day one, but they still act like they are dying if we pick them up. Not a fan of the white ones. There are too many other breeds that are prettier in my opinion if you are looking at white. The older both breeds get, the more their feathers look amazing. I do believe the golden roo is much prettier than the silver laced. Just my opinion.

So sorry Genelda. My dogs got loose and killed about 8 of our chickens last spring. Ours were not quite big enough to eat yet or we would have tried. Hope you can find a good replacement.

I am so sorry I missed your post. If my hens will start to cooperate with me I will have eggs. I have a Lav. Dbl tufted hen and a beautiful white hen I show under him. He has started crowing but I haven't found him mounting yet but shouldn't be long. The roo is also dbl tufted! Daphne has some beautiful Ameracuanas. Contact me later..in case I forget to let you know, and I will see what I can do about eggs. With just 2 hens it will a bit slow at first. Thanks!!
I will remind you in about 3-4 weeks or so. We have been getting up at 6 and turning on the barn lights and leaving them on till about 9 pm at night. So far egg production is getting much, much better. Out of our 70+ layers we were getting 5-6 eggs per day- that is a bit ridiculous!

Got my order of water nipples in today.

Contrast - sorry about the accident, good on you not to let it go to waste!

My DH processes birds by removing skin as it is faster & we don't have a feather plucker
(ok so he or I _could_ do that by hand but well so anyway)

The main thing for cooking is you have to do more to keep it moist, if you are roasting baste frequently & you can also rub w/ a little butter or oil before you start (the skin not only holds in moisture but contains a lot of fat which the roast will taste different w/o). It can still be very good other ways, but the touch of butter or oil is more fool proof for getting it to cook as if there were skin. & I do try to keep some things simple, like did I tell you my DH just skins them so no plucking ; >

Actually, to do list Fall 2013 I see has plucker project , b/c then we'll be culling more ckls from my breeding projects and then I'll need to start using the feathers in things, so much for simple...Anyone built one of those ??

look up quick plucker they work good we have one you can buy them done or d.i.y and they are cheaper than a tub plucker . but they are messy my old man dont mind he does all killing and plucking here when we process. they also make them for ducks and pheasents

A gentleman at the feed store today ask me if I knew of anyone who had a black sex link roo. He has hens and decided he would like to raise some chicks from them. I love to see the older guys get interested in chicken math.

If anyone here has or knows of anyone who does have them please let me know and I will pass the info on to him.

You are going to very surprised at how quickly they convert. I have a couple who stand underneath and take the nipple in their mouth wiggling it back and forth. I don't know how they keep from getting strangled! But then I have 2 who think it is just extremely a lot of fun to stand under them and play with them. I could not figure out why their bucket was emptying out so quick and worried me why they where drinking so much. So...I sit around for a bit outside and caught them in the act...it is just something you can't fight...just keep filling it back up and have a good laugh.
I guess we will find out tonight it nipples freeze or not.
