I'm a couple hrs away -- TN is a really big state and all the Road meander...hope you find someone to hang out w/ !

I clicked on your photos in your sig. lovely birds!
Thanks, ReyRaine. Sorry you're so far away. I know what you mean about distances, Va isn't exactly small, LOL.

Hi, all. I'm in Knoxville for a couple of days, and would love to get together with a chicken lover that's close. Anyone interested?
I'll be in Knoxville Monday.

Where are you from? Do you have family here?

At what age do cockerals become roosters and start mating? I had 2 cockerals but I parted with the BA and kept the one I like the most, an EE.

He is 23 weeks old and seems rough (well, what I call rough) with one of my pullets and I know that this stuff is natural but as much as I like him I get mad LOL. I want to ring his neck. I am new to chickens so can you give me some advice?

Seems like he picks on that particular pullet or that is the one I see him picking every morning when I let them out of the coop.

I did however notice your tag line, and checked out your pics.
Some VERY nice looking chickens there.

Chickens are like people.
They mature at different ages, but usually within a few weeks of each other.

Do you have an older roo that he can see, even in another pen?
They have a natural instinct but they also learn by example.

He like that one pullet because she is coming of age.
The good news is with mine when the roo's start mounting poulet's,
I start getting eggs in 2 to 3 weeks from the pullets.

Thanks for the response. It's funny you said that about you getting eggs soon after, this particular pullet is the one that seems the most mature and the one I have predicted will lay first. Her comb is very red and bigger than the other BA pullet. The EE pullets I have aren't red yet. I hope she does, I am excitedly awaiting my first egg.

As far as another roo, no, this one is the only one on the premises.
