I have one oddball Lav Orp. He (I think... maybe not) is about 5 weeks old now. What it is... a shipment of Coronations I got had a Lav Orp egg in the mix. He/she is purebred... imported Greenfire stock... just only having ONE won't do.... so he/she is for sale. $10 Now... more if I keep him/her too long.

Are you going to be at the poultry show in Newport??

I may be interested in your Lav Orp. Also wanted to tell you about my first chicks from the SL Polish roo you gave me! 2 from him and my Sumatra hen...he is a crafty fellow thus why he is named Chaos! I am locking down eggs from him and my GL hen tonight. Can't wait to see what I get!

Well....one of my spotted sussix hens crowed this morning, LOL
Straight pulled 3 and looks like I got a Roo. He is so nice looking though, I think he is staying. I just hope not too docile to keep the gold laced hens in line (at 12 weeks..they are something else)
Any one have any experience with a Docile Roo over less docile hens?

yes, i have one game hen that bullies the three bantam roos, and she crows also... swore she was a cockerel, right up till she started laying! so hope is slim, but not totally lost yet. her baby i have, seems like roo and mounts and attacks others, but doesnt crow, so it threw my idea of what was what, right out with the bath water.

Too funny...I guess we shall see then. If she lays, all is good. If HE is a HE, and gets his butt handed too him too often then he will probably have to find a new home or a spot in the freezer. Actually the best case is HE is a HE and is just aggressive enough to keep them in line, but still wants to be held like he does now.

I am interested if anyone else has a cockerel who stands over their hens while they are trying to lay? I don't know if he is giving emotional support or making sure they do their job.

But he honestly stands on the edge of the nesting box and cackles like HE is laying the egg. Maybe be is saying ohh awww push...ohhh awww push.

Or maybe it is a Polish thing. He has been very personable from the start. (Generously came from tennesseeckn.) He struts more than any turkey ever would think of doing and is such a Romeo to the gals. I just wish I could get a video of him doing his dance and how he stops dancing... siddles up to the hen and puts his wing around her as if saying " Hey baby..you are my special one..you are so beautiful...want to have my baby?"

I may be spending tooooo much time in the chicken runs. But it is just so interesting to watch them. My last babies have learned to take a dust bath. Looked in their brooder and looked like little chicks all having seizures all at the same time.

Update:::Things are really looking good on having the Chick-n-Paloosa. I think that is the name I decided on. I think I am going to offer 2 craft booths for those who do chicken crafts. My son is considering building different types of coops..etc to sale as well. Leepers from Jefferson City will probably have a booth and Fat Daddy's BBQ. If we all work together I think we can get a good turnout. There will be a junior poultry contest for children ages 12 and under. Of course do not forget the "Best Dressed" chicken show. Ribbons and awards will be given. Everyone still think the 3rd weekend in April will be a good time? or could do the middle of May. I just don't want heat to be an issue as the only shade will be from those who bring covers. Still looking for ideas and suggestions!

Everyone have a wonderful day...I am gone to the hen house!

I got a surprise when I let shickens out this morning. Another chick hatched. I have it inside with my other one.

I have told my organic group and my neibor about the show. Neibor plans on going after 10:30 as they have a appt. This is one that I ham giving my other rooster too. They have a mix of hatchery chicks but will start switching over to mine. The eldest boy is really into chickens. They do not have a computer since dad is on disabilty. So this will be good for them to get out and meet some chicken people. Do not know if any from my organic group will make it out. A few of them have chickens but no one breeds but me. I talked to hubby last night looks like i will make it to meetup.

Hello everyone! I am from Gatlinburg, Tn. This is my first day posting on BYC! We have started out with 2 Silver Laced Brahmas, 2 Swedish Flower Hens, 2 Light Sussex, 2 Coronation Sussex, 2 Welsummer, 2 Black Copper Marans and 3 Delaware chicks. I am loving all the heritage breeds!
