I may be late.... It's freaking COLD outside this morning!!!!
I'll look over the coop and see about someone else to bring in case the millie pair sold.
Whoever asked about a fish tank as a brooder: Probably not a good idea. Not enough evaporation for moisture, and it won't be enough space in about 2-3 days. Find a large carboard box or rig a few together. Carefully set up a light over one corner so they have a warm area to cuddle in. Line the bottom with newspapers and cover that with aspen shavings. For newborns, paper towels or puppy pads over the shavings help little bitty feet. But teenagers don't need the pt or pads.
Since you have small children, I don't recommend 'newborn' chicks until the kids get used to how to handle the birds. 'Teenage' birds would be more cold-hardy and kid-sturdy. But still cute, too.
They will be spazzes until they get used to the kids and used to being handled by an adoring public.... Treats help them reach an accord much more swiftly.
