Ok there's a scalder & plucker the 2 big items needed. For a scalder we used a propane heater with a big pot. Need sharp knives, table, coolers.Oh yeah several bags ice. In about a month we have 16 red broilers to do. After doing 7 packing peanuts we had gotten our feet wet, but after a day of processing at Wiseners we could just about set up an assembly line. It was a good experience, the man who does it is patient & willing to work with you to learn how it is done. He will even remove the gallbladder from the livers for you, this is where I kept messing up I would bust the gallbladder when trying to remove it ruining the livers. Never did catch on to how exactly he did it he could pinch that sucker off never breaking it.
They do it as a family affair the kids catch & bring them in. They had a teen girl who was just awesome. Everyone had their job and was just amazing at all they did.

I remove the gallbladder by cutting it off the liver (leaving some liver with it). I can make the cut to kill a chicken, but like TNbarnqueen said, I have to go find something to do... otherwise the DH has to do it and he does the broomstick method.

Ummmm... was my house picked for the BYOC because y'all are afraid I'll wuss out? Because I just want to say that I could BE at an event like that, even host an event like that and still avoid participating. Not that I would, but I COULD sit in a lawn chair with my eyes squinched shut, fingers in my ears, saying, "lalalalalala" for as long as it takes...

No, seriously. I don't care to do something like that here. We all know I don't have anything ELSE to contribute to the process.

But, and this is a gross question here, what would I do with all the guts? Bury them? Burn them? I won't have any to process after Sunday so I'm not going to be in a rush. Anyone else needing to process next month? Could it wait til January, after the holidays?

ooops Daphne...I guess you kinda did get volunteered,
lol

I'm glad you did. It makes sense to have it here. I just thought it was funny that Stacy thought I might wuss out. As if... hahaha.

I guess time will tell now... lol

So are we waiting until after the holidays?

change of subject....
I discovered one of my birds today with a big worm load. I thought I was getting really lucky because never seen any symptoms at all and so I always went natural as a preventive only. OOPS not working it looks like.

At any rate I have some wazine on hand but am going to switch over to Valbazen. As you may or may not know that stuff is pretty spendy and A 250 ml bottle treats like 500 birds. So I am going to figure out what I have to pay per ml on a big bottle and batch it up in smaller quantities for anyone that needs it. This way we dont have several people buying 250 or 500 ml bottles and wasting a bunch of money. If you need some let me know asap as I should have an order come in about 10 days from now.

PS. Joleta, you better get those four from me wormed also. I will give you some wazine for free since you got them from me if you dont want to wait on the valbazen. We get to waynesville almost every weekend if you want to meet someplace (not this weekend though)

Bairo, I have Wazine, Invermectin pour on and Valbazen all sitting here, so the girls will get dosed. Thanks for telling me, I appreciate the heads up - I have not seen anything in their poo, but best not to take chances.

Will ya'll let a North Carolina girl in on the processing thing?
