Hello! I'm right here! Lol.....

I will be crossing Braden to morrow lines in the next month to two months and then integrating those into my line. Hopefully, that is.... Never know what hatches.

On the marans.... I got some wheatens over a year ago and got new blood this year... BIG difference in type and color. I said I wouldn't do another LF breed right now but I'm thinking these are too good not to try. Oh chickens are a slippery slope!

Ok so sorry that was before we found byc. I really like the thought of chocolate colored eggs but after dealing with those mites on feather foot birds omg it is a mess my poor brahmas look like we drug them through a mud hole from all the blasted vaseline on their chest poor things but at least they are almost totally healed up.
I am sure DE works for some people in keeping those away didn't work for me been using since day 1 every few days in fact had just cleaned coop put more in when we found them 3 days later looking like droopy drawers. It was sad. I check them for all kinds of stuff at least weekly this just blew me away.
We are considering several different breeds right now for our 2nd coop. I am afraid my buff brahmas will be finding new homes in the spring before I have to go through another round of mites , lice whatever on those feet.

They are so pretty but my clean legged orps didn't develop any problems legs stayed sooo nice.

I did not realize Sand Hill had the other colors. I know they are very particular about quality and I would love to have some of their birds. The downside is of course you are def. going to pay for all their hard work. They have a minimum of 25 chicks, they are 50-100% higher on each chick, and they absolutely will not sex what they send. Even for a Del if you get lucky and get 50% pullets, that puts you at 7.00 per pullet chick (counting the roos as nothing) now that stings a bit, LOL

Got to work... Is it more geared toward industrial uses?

No, it is geared towards having more local shows!!

Ooooh. Did you get to go? Can you give us a rundown?

You got a point

in todays times we are pinching every dollar we got. But mainly we are looking for sustainable flocks & a little yard as well dang trying to post with a phone ain't the best. Did you see where tn ckenut said hey about the dels or do you already have from her line ? At least byc has given us a venue for networking. The SO is talking to Ed Hart about te dorkings but he is limited to what he will turn loose of as well. He will let go of 2yr olds after spring hatch also pickup only in Illonois. Hence my dilemia . We got a lot thinking to do in the next couple months. Not sure yet how we gonna go yet. At this point I feel like too much input between the holidays & planning spring gardens & chickens. I guess we will get it worked out.Such is life I suppose after all these are supposed to be my silver years lol

That's step three on the path to D'uccle and Lion Head snuggling, spending crazy amounts of money on birds to improve your stock.

Step one is expanding your flock to three breeds. Step two is sacrificing storage space for rooster bachelor pads. Won't be long, now...

Sorta off topic from the current one at hand, but I noticed a few of you keep rabbits as well. Any reason besides keeping them as pets? Garden manure? Meat? Can you recoop costs or is it like poultry... $x00's in before your first egg and you realize "ahh crap this is gonna be one expensive egg!"

Right now I get get manure and leaves for the garden for the cost of the gas it takes me to drive out there... not sure if I want to invest in premium priced poo

I did and CAN!!!

The club will meet on the 1st Friday of each month at 7pm. Next meeting is 1-6-12. Dues for the club will be $25 individual or $40 family (tentative) and members will be able to sell at any show with no fee. There will be a spring show & a fall show. We're also going to try to host the Nationals in December 2013.

Right now the tentative date for the spring TN Valley Poultry Club show will be 4-14-12. That will be confirmed next week and I'll let ya'll know. But we're pretty sure that's the date. Like 90% sure.

It will be at the TN Valley Fairgrounds. Bantam, Standard and Junior show. No telling how many breeds will have a meet placed at the show, but silkies, seramas, OEGB and d'Uclles/Booted Bantams are pretty certain at this time. A tester wil be there for those that are not NPIP and NPIP papers will be checked.

Judges are still being confirmed.

There will be a flyer about the show distributed in Sparta later this month. Entry forms will go out mid-Feb. Hoping to have a website by then but I doubt on-line entries will be available. There will be a facebook page for the club within the next couple of weeks.

If you know a person/business that can donate a product for the auction or that wants advertiser space in the show catalog, let me know and we'll get some info at to them as soon as we get it prepped.

I am excited!!!!

I like my mini lops! They aren't as bad as chickens I think, and I get more enjoyment out of them (hence why I have downsized to 8 chickens)... They do have manure that is the only one you can put directly onto a garden without fermenting first. They don't require shots, you give them pellets, hay (to prevent blockages), kitty toys, a cage... they're easy to care for and soo cute!!

I have BCM and they are OK..but my Black Stars....these guys never miss laying. Their eggs are a good size and weather does not seem to affect them. I am thinking about selling my BCM and get more Black Stars for the eggs. They are not real flighty either. So...Anyone who is just wanting hens for the eggs to either eat or sell..I would give them consideration.
