LMAO..see Im not the only one that wonders what you feed those birds of yours. and I quote: "I brought home seven beeeeautiful blacks from Daphne today. They are so massive I had to split them into 2 quarantine pens. This is an XL dog crate! And they are spring hatch!"

I'm thinking of raising some Freedom Rangers in the spring which would make me motivated again somewhere near mid-summer. I'm out on vacation then, too. (Leaves me plenty of time for therapy) Is there anyone that can't wait? Anyone else considering meat birds?

I just split my coop into 2 sections plus a rooster jail..so no room for rangers this time around. (although I am very interested in the hoop style coop..hmm? what to do?) LOL

What about this?

I was planning on doing this and running some of my electric fence around a pasture area. That way I can take it apart after I'm done. I know of one other person considering splitting an order with me. We could get a pretty great price if a bunch of us ordered together... C'mon, you know you want to...

If you're selling off pairs I would think that you could list them here, featherauction.com, or bidbird.com. I've not had any luck rehoming boys by themselves, though. That's what led me down the dark path to processing.

I like that, except I would have to use hardware mesh instead of only chicken wire. Critters around here would have a buffet if I used that. Good basic design though, PVc never rots, rusts, chips, ETC.

let me know when you are ordering and we shall see.

List them with the prices on this thread....might get a bite?

Here's what I would like out of them (prices are negotiable)

2 cuckoo standard cochin hens - 8 mos old $20 ea.
English orpington trio (not sure on lines, but if needed can find out) - 7 mos, black roo, 2 black hens - would like $50 for the trio
Partridge brahma roo (HUGE and gorgeous!) - $15
Mille fleur bantam cochin roos - all under a year - $10 ea

The weather has been horrible for pics, but when (if? lol) it dries out I can get some.

Well, we have processed a few chickens. we went to youtube. A lot of info there. We got the old double sink we replaced when we moved in this house and hooked a water hose to it. We sat it on saw horses. Made a nice cleaning station. As for the scalding we uhh huddy dug out a fire pit lined it with cynder blocks and notched groves in the top for old iron fence post we found in the woods. They made a sturdy grate. Then I put a 1/2 inch iron half circle plate we found laying around on top of the grate. It made a great hot plate. So that is where I sat my biggest pot full of water. We sat it up in the dry creek bed. We did it the day before we knew we would get a lot of rain. The hard part was tring to control the feathers. They ended up everywhere. I saw a cool homemade plucker that seemed to work well. A plastic drum with a rod down the center with strips of flanel attached to it. There was a pulley on the bottom run by a lawn mower. It worked fast. Thoss the chicken in let it get slapped around a few times then all the feathers where in the drum. We did learn something from our last try. I baked a chicken yesterday and it was a rubber chicken:lau Yesterday I found out you're not suppose to go strait to the freezer with them. Let them hang out in the frig for 3 days. So, I pulled one out of the freezer 2 days ago and hoping when I cook it tomarrow it will have relaxed. I don't know if it works in reverse, but man I could not chew that chicken. Chicken and dumplings are on the list.

bairo - I had a few problems with my pvc tractor I made... We put a tarp over it and never had pred problems but the tarp slowly deteriated in the weather/rain (rain would pool on it though we had it set up to drain down, with the constant rains we get tarps are bad ideas unless you can come up with a cheap way to make it drain better) then the pvc itself became weak, and one really bad storm came through (thankfully no chickens in it) and it being so light and having the tarp attached blew it across my garden and tore it to shreds into my garden!

Can freedom rangers really just range???

Our chickens (layers/breeders) right now probably get about 80% of their food from ranging at the moment... so having some freedom rangers around wouldn't really upset our system.
