bairo - I had a few problems with my pvc tractor I made... We put a tarp over it and never had pred problems but the tarp slowly deteriated in the weather/rain (rain would pool on it though we had it set up to drain down, with the constant rains we get tarps are bad ideas unless you can come up with a cheap way to make it drain better) then the pvc itself became weak, and one really bad storm came through (thankfully no chickens in it) and it being so light and having the tarp attached blew it across my garden and tore it to shreds into my garden!

Better I think. Still have to get good tarp though or replace every year. I would modify to exclude the nest boxes in favor of more room inside for meat chickens though

Only problem is taking it down. I think I'm going to try nice, long stakes to keep the PVC version from flying away.

What about this?

http://www.pvcplans.com/pvc-pastured-poultry-pen.htm

I was planning on doing this and running some of my electric fence around a pasture area. That way I can take it apart after I'm done. I know of one other person considering splitting an order with me. We could get a pretty great price if a bunch of us ordered together... C'mon, you know you want to...

You planning on getting Free Rangers?
yippiechickie.gif
Which hatchery and when you having them come in? May be interested if price is right

otherwise, I'll stick with Welp's CornishX... they're really tasty and get huge!

I was planning on getting them directly from the source. A lot of hatcheries resell them, but mark up the price.

I got two Orp pullet eggs for you today and one SLW. Let's hope they keep up the good work.

Yeah! I am getting excited about this hatch! Anyone else on this thread doing the BYC's New Year Day Hatch or am I the only crazy one?

Tennesseckn, We just replace the kids trampoline and you are welcome to have the old one. I have seen some interesting poultry pens made out of the trampoline and often just wrapped my trampoline with wire for the chicks to free range safely this past spring. Here is a sample design link...

Tennesseeckn gets first dibs on the trampoline (because she enables my chicken addiction), but if she isn't interest it is free for the taking. It is still in working order, we just replace the it with one that had a net around the top.

Also, I would like to try the Freedom Rangers with you! That hatchery is only about 2 hours from where I grew up in PA

Here's what I would like out of them (prices are negotiable)

2 cuckoo standard cochin hens - 8 mos old $20 ea.
English orpington trio (not sure on lines, but if needed can find out) - 7 mos, black roo, 2 black hens - would like $50 for the trio
Partridge brahma roo (HUGE and gorgeous!) - $15
Mille fleur bantam cochin roos - all under a year - $10 ea

The weather has been horrible for pics, but when (if? lol) it dries out I can get some.

If these orps are the ones you got from me, they are from Julie (bamachicken) and Joy (justuschickens59). They're awesome birds, but I can see why you wouldn't want to feed extras through the winter.

They are, lol! I am over-run with birds right now. I have to say they are GORGEOUS! The roo is huge. I've had people look up at the barn and think he's a dog, lol. I'm going through 100lbs of feed a week... I have to cut waaaay down!

True...not as good for easy take down

There are people on the imported thread looking for stock all the time. You could try PM'ing to see if they're still looking. At that price I bet they'll be snapped up. If anyone local is looking to add... um... girth to their flock this would be the way to go.

Good luck!

Tempting! My only hesitation is that if I bring in a trampoline my husband will not let me object to his finds like the used countertops and pegboard and stuff that he likes to haul home.

Care if I ponder it?

I can't keep up with the conversations anymore! Lol I come on to check and I got 6 pages to read then break is over and I go back! Lol

So hi... I'm here lurking best I can

Woohoo! Just got my 2012 Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds catalog
smile.png

There's an article about the Monsanto case.. very interesting, I hope he loses!

I want more CornishX's to put in my freezer!
droolin.gif
I hate that I didn't order soon enough to get them this fall! I better go ahead and put my order in before summer hits
smile.png
I can't wait to be out of school and working again... ugh staying at home doing nothing but talking to my chickens and rabbits makes me feel like I've fallen off the deep end... must be all the store bought chicken in my fridge...

I need more money! So I can have more chickens!

Good to see you too Bario and thank you so much for helping us out with the wormer. I have been getting 1-2 eggs a day...today I got 6!! and they have not had the wormer yet.

I am still wanting to do the Chick-a-paloosa...just going to have to wait to make final decision as to when after I am back on my feet. Out little group here is really growing now!!

I know what everyone means by rain, rain and more rain. We have to large ponds that connect with a drainage pipe. My husband spent 3 days pumping to lower the high level with 2 pumps. Glad he did it...though to look outside at them now they are right back up to the level they where, BUT....I can't imagine what it would look like if he had not pumped them. The first is running over the land bridge between them. In 22 years this is only the second time I have seen that happen. The ground is so saturated that the water has not where to go. One good thing. If you let your chickens free range this large rain makes grubs come up out of the ground...so a lot of tasty treats waiting for them!
