Got all of my chickens wormed FINALLY! Pretty sure they hate me now, but it is for there own good. I think I should have wait a little later in the evening.

Been sell the extra chickens I had this week. Craigslist sure brings out the crazy people. Some of the calls I got scared me a little. I did manage to meet and sell to two great people! I told them all about this wonderful thread so maybe they will join us on here. I sold 7 chickens now!
One of the ladies is looking for 2-3 more POL chickens. She doesn't care the breed, but just wants something that lays eggs often. I would love to be able to point her in the direction of a fellow BYCer. She is in Knoxville.

I have my 3 leghorn/cochins for sale. Planning on bringing them to the show in Sparta saturday, although if she was able to pick up today or tomorrow I would sell to her (ie, not going to hold and not take to show unless already sold and gone first).

they are point of lay or laying. I believe 1 is laying and 1 is near laying (or laying) and the 3rd about a few weeks or month behind. Should be "decent" layers but great broodies. Always hard to say with the cochin mixes since the pure cochins tend to not be great layers. My leghorn girl is an EXCELLENT layer, egg a day unless molting. So hopefully the cross will be "decent layers".

$15 for 1, $25 for 2, $30 for all 3 together. Must be picked up in Lenior City.

That sound great! I thought you might have a few left. Can you PM me contact info or email address? I will call her right away. It was fun watching her hold the chicken for the first time. She build her own chicken tractor and everything. She got one of my Lavender Orps which should be laying in a month or so.

Always with the reality with you, huh?

I ALMOST had myself talked into adopting one, too! They're only five months old, so I don't know if they've haven a chance to prove themselves as LGD's or not, but you make a good point about training. I might not be the best candidate considering my little dog feels like he has the option of using the carpet under my son's desk as a restroom if it's too rainy or cold outside.

Instead of teaching him not to do it, I just keep my son's door closed. The Dog Whisperer I am not.

Contrast, congrats on selling your birds! I'm impressed you got all of yours wormed. I thought you had passed me up by now! I have to get the rest of mine in daylight. They are in small coops and I can't stand the thought of trying thread chickens out of their little access doors. How did you keep track of them during the day when they're running around and stuff?

So that sick rooster never did improve on baytril and all the force feeding. It developed an eye problem almost like pink eye...and then it hit me like a brick what it was.
Care to take a guess?? Here are the symptoms in order they appeared

Stuffy nose
weakness (oxine flood as treatment)
wry neck type actions (baytril as treatment) (isolation in house and force feeding now)
so weak could no longer stand
so weak could not lift head off ground (made a sling to keep it upright due to pneumonia)
Low temp and feels very cool to touch (heating pad on low in pen now) wry neck type symptoms getting slightly better, but still head is not fully upright)
swollen and close eye only on one side started last night

It took till today for me to get it, what do you think it is.

so i had someone give me a rescued arucana hen, that im not sure what to do with, and also trying to find a home for the one ringneck female dove i have left. im not really trying to get anything out of them, but maybe if anyone has some tiny bantam hens (i miss fresh eggs..), roller or homer pigeons i wouldnt turn them down.

oh yeah, i got these Jacobin, two pairs (one pair banded), and an odd girl out with them maybe, twenty a piece, but prefer to just sell as lot, as prefer performers, so may trade outright for pairs of roller/tumbler type pairs.

Ok bairo with any luck my battle of the mites will soon end. Over 1/2 the flock today got bathed cause of dirty butt turned out to be a load of mites so fluffing , puffing , & blowdrying all round gave me a good indicator where they were weight wise as well they are holding so I guess the scrambled eggs with oatmeal & buttermilk for probios is at least helping them maintain weight. I can't beleive they are still laying 9 eggs a day out of 18.They got dosed with ivermectin tonite medicine dropper in hand out we went. All this bedding changing is getting old to been changed 3 times in 6 weeks. Last tues.the coop, nestboxes, bedding were sprayed with permethrin. I gave up on the sevin dust after hauling out the blower & using almost a can of it blowing it in + new bedding. That was done twice 9 days apart. Tomorrow is due for 2nd round of permethrin 10 days from last time. Funny nobody had dirty butt till the permethrin spray guess all the mites went to the birds. Duh.Another weird fact only 1 coop the layers affected, brahma coop & silkies not affected although everybody all down the line has been treated just in case. The meaties they have been kept as far away as possible & not showing any signs they have been checked they will be processed this weekend before that can all go wrong. No I didn't use ivermectin on the silkies the sevin seems to be working for them.

Good news the brahmas at 29 weeks have started to laying this week got 4 eggs so far got 4 hens.I was begining to think they would not start until spring. So now everyone is laying can't use the eggs good thing I had some saved.
This has been some work no doubt but they will feel better no doubt not getting munched on maybe they will continue to say thanks with eggs in 14 days.I just really hate using all these chemicals but the usual stuff didn't work.I have no faith in DE it was used from day 1 weekly. So

that this is the end of this quest.
