There where some post on egg color of Marans compared to Welsummers. Here are some of my maran eggs. They are finally starting to lay again and the eggs seem a lot darker now that they are older. I was reading an article one day talking about colored eggs. Very interesting as it was telling how the egg of the color is not "applied" until it is leaving the hens vent. Thought that was interesting.
Seem every other day I get one more egg to tally...am up to 5 now. woo hooo!

'One egg is a chocolate color. Hope they stay that dark.

If you're not wanting to move into knoxville city proper, you might consider Norris... nice little mayberry town about 15-20 minutes north of knoxville. For a small town it has a lot going for it. Loads of sidewalks, hiking/biking trails, state parks, fishing, etc. In the past couple years they have started up a farmers market and a few other community events like concerts on the commons during the summer. Of course you'd want to live just outside the city limits because they aren't too keen on the whole backyard poultry movement atm.

I'm in Norris and have more than forty chickens. You just have to have more than four acres to be zoned as a farm.

I love it here. Good schools and great neighbors. My next door neighbor asked me to cut a hole on the fence between our property so the birds could free range over there and they'd get to enjoy them too.

I'd say that property prices are more reasonable than normal since nothing is moving right now.

I could list all sorts of things I like about it but here's the web site.

I didn't know you were a Norsonian

... my son goes to school at NES. They do have really good schools. The commons are also a cool concept for a town, I think you would be hard pressed to find a town with as high a % of greenspace that's open to the public as Norris. If I ever absolutely HAD to live in a town I think Norris would be my first choice.

Gotta love google! I just got a phone call from a guy who spoke with a harsh accent (couldn't hardly understand him, and I told him so!) that said he was with Publishers Clearing House driving a UPS truck to deliver me a check from Bank of America, which made no darn sense to me to begin with... but he kept telling me he was on his way! Creepy, he told me to call a number (if anyone wants to know just in case I'll let you have it via PM) with an extension to talk to his manager about setting it up and after getting off the phone with him I told the phone, "no way in hell am I calling anybody!" So, googled the # he gave me, apparently same guy has a track record of saying the same thing to everyone and he's in Jaimaica... I wonder how you get a hold of someone to keep this stuff from happening? I know for a fact some people are gullible enough to do what they want thinking they really are going to get money...

oh btw, got an e-mail from Meyer hatchery, like them on FB and you'll be entered to win up 3-25 free pullet chicks of rare egg layer variety...
