Thanks! I hope to have a nice sized litter from her. Just had another bred today, she's on hold with a 50% deposit.

Thanks TNChick721 for the hens! They look good! Nice to meet fellow BYCers!

So, today found out definitely have baby bunnies due in 9 days!!! My first litter of Mini Lops!! SO EXCITED!!

Gonna start collecting eggs from my BLRW to do a test hatch, they'll go to incubator on the 6th.

I'm glad you like them!!! Nice meeting you too. Your the first BYCer I've got to meet. When those baby bunnies are born...I want to see pictures.

@ TNChick - yes, will be posting photos of babies...

@ bairo - yes, we're gonna make it into a bator... hubby has been busy doing other things though, so we've gotten as far as pulling the guts out and buying the 'door' that will be going on it. Will keep you posted once he starts working on it again, for now though, have my mini advance to keep me occupied on hatching.

@ Nella

Hatched one from the black OE I got from you. Delaware rooster over her. Does that make the chick a 50% or 25% chance of laying green?? I am still confused on the EE / OE thing and how it works with breeding

I put in 11. 2 were not fertile. Out of the 9 left we had 2 early quitters and 7 babies. The last one to hatch was the OE.

When I had first started with OEs..... breeder told me you have to have 2 blue genes and 1 brown gene to create a true OE. I have not talked to any of the people I sold mine to. I bred OEs to a Welsummer/OE cross. I had been planning on talking to one of my customers this week. Will ask what they laid. I believe he bought 4 from me. I am thinking about hatching some eggs from my OE to my Maran..not decided for sure unless someone is wanting to purchase some.

Hey guys, I'm making a hard decision to pet out one of my bunnies. He's extremely sweet and easy to handle, after I rearranged the barn though he ended up next to a doe and has become a butt, but after he goes back to being on a level by himself he'd make someone a great pet! I took him over to my grandmothers a lot because he could be rough handled by the 2.5year old with no problem, he'll just sit in your lap. My 6 year old cousin was able to pick him up several times and move him and stuff and he'd never kick! PM me if you're interested, this is a hard decision because he's the sweetest rabbit in my barn, one to hop to the front and wait to be petted. I believe once he's away from does he'll do really well in a home with children. Reason to sale is he's a pointed white, and not very typey so has no chance of earning anything and I need the room since I'm just starting out.

Ive researched a little more finally...I had not really worried about it because I dont plan on breeding them on a normal basis, but I still got interested by the genetics.

This OE egg was just thrown into the test hatch because it is what I had at the time

. I am almost certain I am going to get a brown egg layer because The roo should not have the blue gene at all and the OE hen should only be carrying half Blue and half brown genes.

From what I gather the ideal way is to use an all blue gene'd hen like a true Ameraucana and breed her to an all brown gene rooster like a Maran or welsummer. Then you get a nice green egg layer.
Then take that green egg layer (equal blue/brown genes) and breed her back to dad to get a hen that now carries 2 brown genes to every 1 blue gene to get a darker olive color layer.
Since I have a Delaware that carries only a few brown genes (lays a light brown egg) over an OE that is about equal brown/blue, I will most likely get a light brown egg layer or a slight chance it will be greenish tint. Now take all that and figure it might be trash since there is also only a 50% chance that my Delaware X OE chick will even be a hen. Have a head ache yet? LOL
And that is the sum total of what I learned about OE genetics today and is probably half wrong
