Chinchillas are awesome, I have had mine, a female normal grey for about 2 years now. She was given to me because someone I used to work with's daughter got her and no longer was interested. They have things you can buy to help them regulate their body temp better, one option is a peice of granite basically, another is a little mini heating pad that is rodent safe. And if you havent seen a chinchilla take a dust bath you dont know what your missing, its so funny though I advise going the ceramic dust holder route as opposed to the plastic ones they looovvvee to chew.Woohoo!! Fresh meat... er, members!! Welcome all newbies to our little East TN thread. Feel free to continue conversing amongst each other, and comment freely! Update: My baby mini lop bunnies have opened their eyes!! My friend who has a doe fostering the babies, said she walked in and they were everywhere, and one was chasing Gin (the foster doe) around the cage! <3 I also had to take in 2 bunnies from my aunt, who found out after getting a brother and sister mixed rex buns, she's badly allergic. The doe gave birth to 5 babies today (yes, it's the brothers babies, I don't have the heart to kill them though, they are healthy looking) out in the cold weather and I had to bring them in and warm them up in a robe on a heat pad. They're still alive and now warmed up and with the doe in a travel carrier in the back room. All 7 have been found a new home, will be dropping them off tomorrow.
I must have the "furry creature fever" and the chickens aren't furry enough! I'm trying to talk DH into letting me have some chinchillas....![]()
So far I've got him sold on the fact they're pretty low odor if you do a weekly cleaning, and they're hypo allergenic and flea resistant because of their dense fur! The hurdle is the cage and where in the house it'd go... and having to keep the house under 78 degrees through the summer... since they don't sweat they can't stand high temps... We'll see how it goes if I can save up enough money to afford one of those expensive cages!
yep. Just ask my wife, she will be glad to tell you "I have an answer for everything" LOLWoohoo!! Fresh meat... er, members!! Welcome all newbies to our little East TN thread.
