I think I figured out why chicken people are such enablers. If everyone else buys up all the chickens then there is less temptation

i would not be able to resist a bundle of those cuties probably either, and would be getting chicks and/or eggs and shoving them under brooy doves, then love watching the foster parents try to keep them covered and feed, by chasing around, picking up with wings and repeatedly put back in nests.. hehehe <3 seen foster hens do this also, when ive tried to put chicks under them, but the babies are apparently at times picky about who they associate with. two or three of my budgies are starting to feather out bright and pretty, and the first pair of baby rollers are feathering in great, with one white with red, and other red. thought heard mewin a sec ago after cat showed up from were ever she was in my big mess of big apt, after was outside calling for her like i was one of those crazy cat people. then went down and cleaned up cat toys and put the handfulls back in box.. she has me under her evil "adopt me, im an abandoned helpless kitteh" kittiness. probably using my place as base to plan out the take over of the world! Mr. kitteh has started using the litter box but goes out still right after she uses it. cats are such butt-heads arnt they (though keeping her in and leaving doors to everything open, has solved my rodent troubles that come in from the woods, walls, or other apts)?

Lol cats are awesome, a few years back I was given one at the first monday sale, thought it was a youngish one and would be no problem but not long after we had not one but 5 cats

. Turns out she was pregnant but we got her fixed and her babies fixed which all grew to be twice as big as her.

I've yet to give in. But I know its going to happen sooner or later. I need more land!

I thought I had a olive egg layer. But after seeing that egg. I now know I don't. Crud!

This girl's mama was a Marans and this was her first egg, so it is really dark. I don't think they have to look like that to be considered an olive egg. Barnqueen is our resident olive egger expert.

Mine is about that dark...but I got her from Nella and we are not sure what cross she is.

I just got a message from Meyer. I ordered back in the middle of December 11 Dels and 3 EE's for me and 15 NHR's for my father in law. They were supposed to ship today and they call me at 4 pm to tell me they had a short hatch and they want to know what I want to do. I am so mad right now I can not see straight!!!

I need to just cancel the whole thing but dont know where to find any Dels. I needed that many to pick and choose the good ones for breeding stock. ARGHHHH

Well the feed store where I shop was selling sebastopol goslings for $20 last year, I am already having 2 more call ducks shipped in very soon must not buy more geese. Only if i can keep telling myself that lol. Im already going to the carolina chickenstock, that is bad enough for buying alot of birds at once, mainly going to get more silkies lol.

OK so lets get this straight on TSC, Anyone else notice what the others have so I know where to go shopping if I tell Meyer to stick it?

Newport-- only has Black and Red sexlinks, Black Austrolorps, and some breed of ducks
JC-- Has Black Giants, americaunas, and reds

@bairo, I suggest getting your birds from a breeder who has worked with them alot, instead of a hatchery, while hatchery birds are more economical those from a breeder will almost always be better quality stock and will be better in the long run. I found this one out the hard way when I first started showing birds 6 years ago, hatchery birds can be awesome and they can be hideous as far as a good breed representation goes. Ask for refrences, most long time breeders will be more than happy to help.

Got my poultry press today. Just now got to read threw it. I'm setting here in the bed and see a ad for the something to crow about show. (grabbed my cell had to speak to you all now. Cant wait till morning) May 5th seriously? That's the same day the my farmers market is having the farmer for a day event. We just settled in that date and are in the middle of planning it. CRUD!!!! What time does the show start? I might have enough time to drive over there and be back in time for our event to start. We are hoping to have chicks hatching at the event and let people register to win them. But like I said we are still planning this thing. I'm pushing for a chicken booth. That kids can come gather eggs. My 5 year old is so excited about it. He can show is little class mates how to gather eggs. I don't want to miss the show again. Was so looking forward to meeting all you enablers!!!

Hmmmm...I don't know if I would call myself an "expert". Actually..with Marans you will have darker colors and lighter with Wells. But when hens first start laying the coloration will change some after a while. I have an americuana that came from a sky blue egg.....but her eggs are olive. But some days a bit more of a blue tint. SO...I guess what I am saying is it all depends on how that dark egg gene affects your hens coloration. Those are some really nice colors tennesseeckn.
Here is a tidbit. All chicken eggs are white. When they are coming out there are color "cells' just inside the hens vent. So..the color does not color the egg until right at the moment it is being laid. I am going to hatch out a few OEs from my marans. I used a welsummer last year and was really kinda disappointed. Hope this helps!
