OK so lets get this straight on TSC, Anyone else notice what the others have so I know where to go shopping if I tell Meyer to stick it?

Newport-- only has Black and Red sexlinks, Black Austrolorps, and some breed of ducks
JC-- Has Black Giants, americaunas, and reds

A friend who works at TSC in morristown called me today to let me know. They have pretty much the same as the ones Newport has. But they will be getting in chicks for about 3 or so weeks and usually get more varities.

@bairo, I suggest getting your birds from a breeder who has worked with them alot, instead of a hatchery, while hatchery birds are more economical those from a breeder will almost always be better quality stock and will be better in the long run. I found this one out the hard way when I first started showing birds 6 years ago, hatchery birds can be awesome and they can be hideous as far as a good breed representation goes. Ask for refrences, most long time breeders will be more than happy to help.

I appreciate your advice and while it is good advice for someone just starting......I do things a little differently. Both my #1 & 2 Roos are SQ and text book conformation. In the hopes of cleaning up the breed with as much different blood as possible; I collect birds from different sources and judge the conformation as they approach laying age to determine if they go in the breeder area or the general area to become layers, or freezer camp. The general birds dont leave my property so as to remove them from the bloodline. My two roos and several hens (starter flock) thus far are from some of the top blood lines in the country.

from our other conversation......
Im going to do my spring cleaning early as well. I usually do it the 1st of April (that is when I do my Ivermectin pour also) We shall see if that helps.....

Meyer Hatchery...

I have to say, although I was upset about the shortage on the order, that they really treated me right in trying to make up for it. To replace the Dels, they are sending Wels, marans, partridge pens, and EE's. Basically they tripled the value of the birds to replace my order. Whooo-Hooo

Since my big hen house is already divided in two, I just have to divide the run and will acquire the other breeding dels at a later date. All is well that ends well

Cudos to Meyer for good customer service......

Ok guys, the last 2 eggs in the bator are starting to hatch (which would make this a 100% hatch) and one is having some trouble, I put water in a couple days ago but it seems to not been enough the thin membrane seems to have dried some and shrinking, but the other egg is just now pipped and almost ready to zip so don't want to open the bator, I'm sitting on my hands

I hope I do not have to intervene! Other than that, my rooster is doing his job!

Lol cats are awesome, a few years back I was given one at the first monday sale, thought it was a youngish one and would be no problem but not long after we had not one but 5 cats
th.gif
. Turns out she was pregnant but we got her fixed and her babies fixed which all grew to be twice as big as her.

yeah, you gotta watch out at first monday in summer baby seasons, as youll end up with kitten put in your clothes and stuff as you walk away/by/through, and puppies put in your vehicles. sounds funny, but ive seen people leavin late and finding a litter of pups in their vehicle, and cursin up a storm. yeah, my cat would sometimes follow me up there, and at first when was trying to find her another home (as i generally dislike most cats, or more than one on a property or household), and hardly anyone wanted her, and of few that did, she always found her way back in days to week, or mauled them when they were leaving and jumped out of vehicle and came back and they didnt stop for more than sec to curse. she is.. special.. so guess she fits in with mine (its funny now i try to lock her up when leave, as dont want anyone to take or hurt her, big ol softy ive become). hahaha i thought she got carried off by what ever that raptor is, as it to me looks like more of a vulture, but turns out she just learned how to jump or climb off my neighbor's balcony (its vacant, so know no one let her out off of it). what ever it is, its wingspan is about at least over half length of my balcony and fourth to almost half width, thin long small: neck, head, legs and feet, and brownish. doesnt make any sound at all or flap hardly, just glides around here and at neighbor's game cock/cattle/horse farm (neighbor says it just waits circling till it plucks up a chick, or they toss out a "used" gamecock). i thought maybe some sort of vulture, but not any that im familiar with specifically.. it seems to have learnd to come when i blow the whistle to feed my birds, and flies so close i could almost "sweep" it away with a broom, and will glide by as i whistle (so started feeding my birds after dark rather than before, as wouldnt hurt it as its almost worth feeding to watch glide by so very close, though dont want it to keep disrupting fliers and scare off any more untrained birds), now that my birds are all on lockdown sadly (one good thing is aside from some of the jumpier few, most of the pigeons just ignore it, as know it cant get them in cages). it doesnt seem to be after them just the babies and eggs, and never came remotely close or bothered till the squeakers started making noise..

any ideas on specifics or general guesses even on this thing??? we have had hawks, falcans, owls, eagles around, and seen the much smaller black hawks and some other vultures looking close to it, but no cigar. just wondered if it could be juvi and i was just assuming by size would be adult vulture or something looking similar?

Daph;

That floor brooder you said you could not picture was described using "man Talk" you better ask your DH to look at the description.

Ahhh! That explains why my eyes glazed over and my attention drifted off before I got through the first sentence of the description.

Good luck on a 100% hatch. That's awesome!

Thanks! Fortunately the other hatched shortly after my post, and after venturing off to TSC and coming home with 7 Cornish Broilers, I found the other had made no progress so intervened. All I did was break the shell more and pulled some of the stuck membrane off and put him back in, he took a few minutes but he pushed out and the shell was stuck to him so pulled that off after he was out. He had some blood on him but seems to be fine now. I turned the bator off and have the 2 in a separate brooder from the other chicks.
