stang.....im going to try and get better pics of those two black/gold (black/red) supposed Ameraucanas so you (and anyone else) can help me ID them. I've only had a couple EE's in my life and so am really confused on 2 of the ones I have. Add to that the fact that Meyer screwed up my order so badly and we switched so many times to get replacements that I am not certain on a couple of others as well. All the breeds I decided to try and play around with this year are completely new to me (i feel like such a newbie, LOL) At any rate...I'll go get better pics of the ones in question.

Quote: Get down to 40 east bound (is that 75 from your area, I think?) anyway....go east on 40 through Knoxville. Your going to take exit # 432-B
THAT EXIT IS ON THE LEFT FROM THE FAST LANE, SO BE CAREFUL AND WATCH FOR IT. You cant turn from the exit, it only goes one way towards the fair grounds. Go about 2 miles and the grounds are on the right. If you get to the bottom of the hill where Crystal Burger is.....you went to far.

I wonder if I could get a water trough big enough for me and the ducks to take a bath in? Because that is exactly where I would be if I brought home ducks, LOL

I seen some as big as a pool at my local CO-OP or might have been Tractor Supply in Jamestown.

Thanks bairo, maybe we can help with the breed identification! If you got them from a hatchery though I'm sure their EE's, what I've heard all Ameraucana raisers will tell you!

I am now thinking I should sale my stock tank and heater, since you brought it up in my mind! I have a 100 gallon rubbermaid stock tank with a caged floating de-icer, would like to sale both together for $100 (need money!).

Holds water!!! I just took these photos and it's half full of rain water!

My sister might be intersted in that. For her horses. I will tell her about it.

I got all of my EE's from a breeder up near Mountain City but on the NC side (cant remember the town). He had what he correctly identified as EE's and a few younger what were supposed to be pure Ameraucanas. Since he was up front about it, I figured the younger ones were more than likely Ameraucanas. I was actually just looking at feather coloring to play around with some EE colors and did not even care about if they were pure Amer or not. But now I'm curious if they are truly Ameraucana's.

It was just the cuckoo marans and the wels that I got from Meyer, but I lost so many the first 24 hours and they had changed my order drastically to make up for what they did not have....that I am questioning one of the cuckoo's and if the other 2 are wellies or pendensenca. LOL...I'm supposed to know what i am doing here

but these are new to me and my attention span lately has been shot.

Have to go get to work, but will take some good shots later today. The shots in my album only have the EE's and the other layers right now.

My small flock of 4 were free range and fed pride and pleasure 22% protein super layer pullets when I bought them 3 weeks ago. Until the new coop is here and modified there is No way to allow them free range( hopefully my DH can add a run)--the only door opens from inside the barn through to the back yard where chicken eating dogs reside, and then I would have to circle them into the pasture about 50 feet away from the closest gate. I'm thinking chickens don't herd well. My question is, since this feed is animal protein free, do I need to add/ change anything? The eggs are very hard shelled and the membranes are thick. They get free choice pullets, os. shells and boss tossed in daily--when we mow I put in grass.
Also, most of my pasture is without trees or cover, should I add a section of netting for them to get under for hawks? The attached run will be covered top and bottom in fencing. I don't know how big of a deterrent our donkey will be in a hawk attack, he's for the footed predators. I'm actually kinda of thinking that if I'm not beside them, not to let them free range.
