@ Bario

No need for forgiveness. I suppose we have all had moments where we just wanted to do the easy thing to solve another issue.

All is cool with your friends here @ BYC. It takes more than a moment of weakness to discourage us.

Besides you still owe us a video on how to caponize.(JK)

@ All

Last year my addiction (with chickens) seemed to be causing problems. I threatened several times to sell every chicken and chick I had.

When I figured out I was addicted (to chickens), I started reducing my numbers. Come to find out chickens were the least of my problems.

Now I have my addiction under control (YA RIGHT). The very special lady in my life is very tolerant of my birds, she has her quilting.

Looking forward to seeing everyone @ Newport on Saturday.

I think your right stang, The earlobes are hard to tell right now but certainly look like they might be more white than red. Like I said she is half the size of her hatchmates which makes sense also. I looked at her tail a lot closer and she does seem to be getting that high arched fan tail. I guess I am getting a white egg layer prozac chicken after all?

@All

I think we have worked out the (hmm) problem? And I will try and keep the flock, although (stang, you were the first to ask) I'll bring the two in question for Ameraucanas and if you still want them you can still have them for that price, if not I was asked by a couple others as well. And I am bringing at least one of the EE's that I cant use that feather pattern, plus the dels, reds, and the he/she del. I apologize if I got everyones hopes up for the birds....I was not in a good place at all and just wanted to indirectly solve an issue. I hope you all can forgive me for that.

Don't apologize. I think we've all been there. I'm really glad there's not an instantly-no-chickens-rabbits-cats-or-dogs button. I would have slapped that sucker fifteen times this month.

Bairo, So glad you are keeping the chickens!

Well, I guess they say don't count your chicks before they hatch for a reason. I just had the worst hatch ever! I don't even want to figure out the hatch rate it was that bad. Needless to say. I don't have any extra Swedish Flower Hen chicks to sell this weekend. I guess this learning process, and I have learned my lesson. Good thing the chickens make more eggs everyday. I have 9 more eggs on day 5, and 14 more eggs ready to go into the incubator, so for anyone interested I should have chicks in 2-3 weeks.

I am glad to hear the problem has been worked out!! NO, apology needed!! Yeah! You get to keep your flock!

I'm super excited about the show Saturday day! I know you all are probably tired of hearing me say that. I did have a dream last night about the show, that I over slept and couldn't make it. I was so sad. Woke up to my alarm going off and thought, wait is it Saturday already. No, its just Wednesday and I have to go to work! Bummer! I will have my 5 year old with me. He came home from school the other day with a new saying. When he sees a pretty lady. He now yells. Hey hot beautiful lady! He had to of picked that up at school. No one in my family says that. So if you hear a child yelling that. He's mine! I will be the one with the red face standing next to him. Okay so I will be looking for a few hens while at the show. Looking for BLRW, Welsummer or some other chocolate egg layer. They don't need to be show quality. Also my friend is still looked for a Barred Rock Rooster. He had got one. But it started flogging his kids. So it has to go.

I don't have any extra Swedish Flower Hen chicks to sell this weekend. I overloaded my Brinsea and I don't think the temp was high enough for the bottom eggs. I tried to move them into a cheap styrofoam incubator but I guess it was to late the damage was already done!

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. I know how excited you were for them to hatch.

My babies are now 4-5 weeks old. They are showing some nice color. But my chicken math was off. So I now have too many for my winterized coop. I thought I would throw them out to you guys first before craigslist. I have EE's I put a splash maran over Ameraucanas & EE's. Some of the EE's have light feathered shanks. All have slate legs except the 3 splash they have a green tint. So all theses are Olive Eggers or the carrier of the gene for the roos. All the roos are up for grabs and some hens. I have yet to count them this week. Last week I had 58. Plus a hen is sitting on 12 eggs. I set them out to free range with the adults during the day. So I will need warning to keep them locked up for the day or came at dusk. I want to keep 10-15. So some girls have to go. I also have a couple of fluffy ones that came from the kids pet Pookey a silver laced cochin with a splash maran roo. Turned out to be blue with heavy feathered feet. What do you think? The BCM pullets are not for sale but the bcm roos are. Also the blue copper maran roos can go. They seem to be harder for me to pick out of the sea of gray. The BCM's came from a breeder in Dalton, GA who has Bev Davis and Cottage hill lines. All the blue ones are mine. The parents are her to see.

Time to mow the weeds again

a Cochin/maran mix

This is blue the EE with some of her offspring maybe LOL

oh noooo. you have the larger Brinsea dont you?
I usually hear pretty good things on those. As matter of fact if I ever bought a bator instead of making them all the time it would probably be the octo 20 advance. they had the 20 advance EX on sale a while back for the same price as the non EX....I wish I would have spent the money then ad got one. But then Kim would have really killed me, lol

bairo,
So, I read everything-- I just use the Boss to get them to turn the litter, I reduced it to 1 handful. I can go to free choice on the OS.
1. what do I put it in? I've just been throwing it like the boss.

2. Can I finish the bag of faithway 22%--mix it with the 16%, or give it to my parents for wild bird feed?

I have added a dishpan (about 7 inches deep) with sand, topsoil and ashes for a dust bath. I think the sides are too high and that's why they don't seem to use it.

3.Any idea how short the pan sides should be? I'd like to only have one side lower-so the dirt stays contained--would that work?
the roost deck is directly over the dustpan, about 10 inch clearance, should I move the dust bath pan??

I'm glad your keeping some birds-- I agree with the statement that it's a good thing there is not an instant button to change things, my dogs and donkey would probably have whiplash.
