Terry or anyone else fairly close to me.....

My in-laws adopted a quarter horse and I am on the look out for a cheap good saddle for Megan. Prefer Australian but Western is ok. I am going to see him this weekend and will better be able to judge his size, but he looks to be about 15 hands and is a 6 YO geld. Megan is 5'6" and a size 3....so prefer about a 15 but could probably go up to a 16.5 and she can grow into it.

Also might be interested in other things if good price.

I have an australian saddle....since I am selling all my horses I am going to have an enormous amount of tack..etc for sale. Aussie saddles are the only one I will use..the safest you can find and wonderful breaking saddles. Give me a call. I have 2 different sizes that should work for her. If anyone knows of someone looking for very nice...very well pedigreed, (these are bred to show), I have my Cremello Stallion, my Bay mare (who is bred back to my stud and will through a palomino or buckskin), a buckskin weanling. I will negotiate pricing. I have been so upset in having to sell them but....my health is not going to let me ride again...this has been a very hard depressing decision. Sorry to have gone on a different subject.
**Sand is great in a run. I use deep shavings in the house....I put the fine shavings down then the larger flake on top. I don't know if sand will freeze in the winter but it drains well so I would think it will do fine...better than frozen mud! But you must rake your sand a couple times a week to let the poop drain through. I was wondering about my younger chickens...in using sand would I need to still give them grit?
I need to catch up here too...will try this weekend. Everyone take care.

the babies that the black cochin hatched for me seem to pick thru the sand for grit just fine. I have tried to keep them away from any scratch I give to the hens, but mom had them outside at about day 5 and would show them how to scratch.....It made me nervous with them and the hard grains, but they are all doing just fine. So the sand must be doing it's job.

I just looked at my chicken and found tiny yellow bugs on them, mostly on their necks, crawling all over the base of the feathers...
What is this? and what I can do to get rid of them asap?
probably bird lice. use pyromethicin dust or spray on liquid. (I prefer the dust) it is better if you can spray down the coop with the liquid to make sure you kill all the bugs. You will have to repeat in 2 weeks to kill all the newly hatched bugs.

Hey, just checking out this thread. Awesome!

Anyone know how winter laying tends to be around here? My hens will hit 6 months in December, but I wasn't sure if they would start laying then or not til spring. No big deal, just curious about what to expect.
Welcome to our corner!!!

I would say if they hit 6 months in December (depending on the breed) they are very likely to wait till early spring to lay. Some of the better production breeds are more likely to start laying in November (in your case)
Sorry we skipped over you...did not mean to ignore.

We didn't skip over them... I used that post and stangs to further push my pro-duck agenda.

Remember, this November you have a choice to make. Eggs or no eggs? I think the choice is obvious.

TOO FUNNY!!!

Grawg wants you to believe you'll just get loads of eggs from your ducks, don't be fooled! Ducks cause holes! Chickens are much cleaner when it comes to drinking! Why would you vote duck with these kind of statistics?
