I have been using Hubbard 22% for several months now. I liked that the pellets where smaller. I just changed to crumbles cause the adults wanted to eat the chick feed no matter how hard I hid it (except for the brooder Bario is letting me use.). So...I started crumbles for the layers and they think they are getting chick starter.

There doesn't seem to be as much dust in them either. It just depends on the chickens. Bario's did not care for them so...I would try 1 bag to make sure they like them. I get mine at out local milling company and they also mix specialized feeds.

I really liked the hubbard as well as it seemed better formed and no dust.....but my sassy hens did not care for it, lol

Co-op feed is crap (impo) I had bad luck with dust, mold, etc.

I like Blue Seal a lot, but dont want to drive outside of waynesville, NC to get it.

Ok, I spoke with the number listed here for the Maryville Co-op. The feed mill is closed down. The guy there told me it closed a couple of years ago. He did say however they have a band of layer pellets there that are 16% protein like the normal layer pellets for 9.80 a bag for 50lbs. That's alot cheaper than what I was paying at TSC. I have never heard of the brand KTA and I can't find much info on it. Does anyone know much about KTA brand feed? They guy I spoke to on the phone uses it for his hens and says it works great.
Well since you're in Lenoir city I would imagine you spoke to Mike? At LC Feeds? KTA is ok, they've changed their formula the last I heard, but for less than $10 can't beat that! If it's not LC feeds that you called let me know where you found it, I will buy KTA at that price!

I tried to call LC feeds but the number kept going to voicemail and the message box was full. It was at the co-op in maryville where I found it. That's just a bit far for me to wanna drive.

Quote: Well, LC Feeds is suppose to be going to another person... She's gonna take it to Friendsville I think, but as far as I'm concerned I now just run to TSC.

It sucks, they were a small business with great prices. Only problem was the distributors wouldn't sell to them at a reasonable price, he was always more than TSC with Purina brands, the cheapest he carried was KTA, and he told me they changed the formula (which may have caused hens to stop or decrease laying) and I decided I'd just feed Dumor (a purina brand) to my chickens.

I loved the scratch LC feeds sold, it was a locally grown made feed (pieces of corn and different kinds of seeds) and I always got good laying results from feeding it, and since it's rolled in molasses the chickens ate it with no complaints. It's in Maynardville (?) though... now that I don't use that much feed I don't think it'd be worth the price of gas to go get a bag or 2, because that's the only way I think I'll get any.

Bairo - that machine thingy costs too much for how much work would be involved. But I agree with the idea that Co-op brands suck, I think all fully processed feeds suck - that is, anything that doesn't look like I could eat it. Unfortunately, it's all we've got. I think as long as it doesn't get wet and starts to rot, any feed you use will suffice.
