Not only bareback...but as you can see, no tack either

Oh he looks like my first Lily...my first walking horse. She was wonderful and I was able to ride her like that. I told Johnny I want to ride Sky this week..hopefully he will sell soon. It is getting late in the year and horses don't sell as well so I am afraid I will have to over winter them...hope not. Tell your daughter she looks like a natural!

Im going to try and make it as well. What time are they starting???
I will be there by 8. I have quite a few to sell but some I am keeping til the Nov show in Newport mainly because most people there will know the quality and understand the pricing. Some people will look at a $20 SG and think it outrageous but breeders understand it is a fair price. But what I bring is going to be priced to sell if anyone is coming. If we get a good turnout they will continue to have them.
OK..,I have a lone chick that hatched out Sunday and for some reason my 2 dependable broody hens are not wanting to take it...maybe because it is just one. Does anyone one near me have any chicks that are under 6 days old?? Or if you know of anyone who may have some. I just want 1 so it will not be alone. I think if broody has more than one it will make a difference and I hate keeping it in a brooder by itself. They just do not do well alone I think. This is a chick for new blood to my Crele so...after a 4 hr trip to get eggs....and only one to hatch..it has GOT to make it,

@Bario...sounds great on the roo exchange.

I am so happy with the cooler weather!! Hopefully the hens will start laying again.

I think it may be best to wait and have the Chick-A-Paloosa next year. I did not get any feedback on it and to have it is going to be a lot of preparation and advertising. I just don't want to have something and no one show up. I would like it to be our threads yearly event...so maybe everyone will be more open to it next year. Sorry Stang...I know you where really looking forward to it,.

Well,..time to feed the masses. Everyone have a great day!

Ya I like the cooler weather also. My girls were laying decently until about two weeks ago, now I am lucky to get 4 eggs a day off of about 40 hens.
I have some that I know have not layed in over a month.

Stang is not the only one to be sad. I was hopeing it would happen also.
Well, I suppose we wait

till next year.

As far as feeding the masses, was done by 8 this morning , after getting Sarah off to school.

@bario

Both look wonderful.

Kiddo (sorry can not remember her name) is growing, she is just like mine.
Seems yesterday we went to hospital to have her and today she is 15.

We we bought our first horse, I think we went and looked at her at least 4 or 5 times.
She was so gentle that you could ride her like that also.
Do not know how many times we would just tie hay string to her halter and ride her around the field.

Quote: I wish I had a baby for you..our timing got off, lol
I have some due to hatch on the 17th..but am worried about them. My fertility rate was less than half. I may have to put in another rooster and see if I can get them to get along. I set 25 eggs and only 11 were fertile. Keep your eyes out for a youngish wellie cockeral at the swap if you get there before me. I may be looking for another wellie pullet or 2 also. Kim wants me to keep one of those Wheaton roos , but he does not really fit with what I am trying to do.

@ itsthelaw - Sorry about the delay in getting some pictures of the pool setup for the ducks. The pool picture shows the biggest downside to keeping ducks imo. The mess can get out of hand in a small area, which is why I prefer free ranging the ducks. The pool area shown below has had the pool there a couple weeks and once I move it will take 2-4 weeks to recover.

Here is a shot of them at a distance in the yard.

So this past Saturday was my toughest day to date keeping ducks. I had 3 drakes to 8 ducks and that ratio was not working out at all. So in the interest of the "girls" I took two of the drakes to be processed. I did the actual chopping on one of the drakes and it was not something I would look forward to again. Once it was at the plucking stage it got better the more it looked like meat.

The silver lining was the flocks behavior change after the excessive "pressure" was relieved. They are acting more as a single flock rather than 2-3 separate tribes with constant raids from one to the other. This has definitely given me a new appreciation for meat and those who do all the processing so I have a nice clean package to buy it in.

@ stang

Sorry to hear about Fredrick needing another home. He has become kind of the clubs mascot Rooster, LOL

I think maybe we should just continue to pass him around the group. He has been such a sport about it all, he has earned his reprieve from the table I think. He started with Daph, then me, then you......hmmm who's turn is it

Dont be shy yall, step right up and claim him for a while.

Do all of the Tractor Supply Companies do this? I have never seen any at the one in Lenoir City. I would love it if they had one. is this somethingyou have to ask them to do?

Thank you so much for posting that. Questions: If I get some and let them free range, can I put them up at night? (It wouldn't be safe here because our back yard is all woods). Would it be best to start in the spring? And what breed would you recommend for someone who has absolutely no idea what to do with a duck?
